FAC to hold auditions for Aladdin

Auditions for Aladdin, a collaboration with the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) and Columbia Children's Theatre will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7 and Thursday, Feb. 9 in the Wood Auditorium at the FAC from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aladdin will be co-directed by Jerry Stevenson, artistic director of the Columbia Children's Theatre and Candace Fuller, who was assistant director of last fall's production of Zombie Prom. All children ages 6 to 18 are encouraged to come and participate. There is no audition fee.

Happy 50th anniversary!

Henry M. Williams, Jr., (Mackey) and Ann Graves Williams will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on February 3, 2012. The couple was married in Columbia, South Carolina on February 3, 1962. They were high school sweethearts at Camden High School and have made Camden their home.

Local business donates portion of revenue back to Camden Elementary

Storage One has partnered with Camden Elementary School of the Creative Arts (CESCA) to show appreciation for all the school does for its children. When a new renter mentions CESCA, a portion of their first month's rent was given to the school. On Monday the owner of Storage One, Josh Denton (left) presented a check for $150 to Camden Elementary Principal Ed Yount for this effort. Storage One of Lugoff and Camden plan to continue this special for CESCA and look forward to expanding their partnership to Lugoff Elementary School.

A Cappella at its very best...

The music of the Pitchforks of Duke University, a nationally acclaimed collegiate a cappella group, and a past winner of the SoJam Southeast Collegiate A Cappella Festival, is returning to the Wood Auditorium of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) for a one-night performance Friday, Feb. 3. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, military and seniors. This concert is made possible by Bob Sheheen.

Happy 83rd Birthday!!

Millie Branham, of Lugoff, will turn 83 on Thursday, January 26. She has five children, nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She celebrated her birthday at her home with family and friends on Sunday, Jan. 22.

Jackson High School Class of 1970 to host Valentine’s Day gala

The Jackson school class of 1970 will host a Valentine's Day gala at 8 p.m. at the Quality Inn Banquet Room Feb. 10. Tickets are $15 and the proceeds go toward a scholarship fund. Buy tickets before Feb. 10 to be eligible for a door prize and other prizes. Classmates, teachers, administrators and other staff members of the JHSC 1970 and public are welcome. Kershaw County families now warmer

Sixteen families in Kershaw County have a warmer home this winter after local volunteers completed a mission project in December. The WARM (Weatherization and Repairs Ministry) project was held Dec. 30 and 31 with more than 100 volunteers from 17 churches. All work was done free of charge and included repairing floors, replacing siding, building ramps, fixing leaking plumbing, shingling roofs, repairing windows, and insulating homes. To apply for repairs, contact the Housing Coordinator at the United Way at 432-0951.

Brevard scholarship winners announced

he Camden Music Association (CMA) and the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) announce the winners of the 2015 Brevard Music Competition. This year's competition was held at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church where 13 students competed for scholarships to further their musical endeavors. The competition and recital is sponsored by Sibby Wood in honor of her mother, Margaret Beckley Upton.

Historic Camden's Armies Through Time

Hundreds of people visited Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site last Saturday to learn about warfare through the ages. Guests got to interact with warriors from Ancient Greek wars, Medieval wars, 19th Century wars, World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War. Different stations were set up that featured artifacts, costumes and camps from different wars.
