Free history talk on the Ride of Paul Revere

Wednesday, April 10 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Kershaw County Library's Camden location there will be story-telling relating to the ride of Paul Revere and the events of April 19 1775, courtesy of the Revolutionary War Veterans Association.

The Rembert Area Community Coalition (RACC) will hold its first annual spring parade on Saturday, April 13. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. and go throughout the afternoon until 3 p.m.

Neal Clark and Friends: The Finale to benefit FAC

Local resident, Neal Clark joins forces with fellow musicians and vocalists for a fabulous night of Broadway and classic songs to benefit the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County. "My Favorite Things" will take place on Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium. There will be a reception catered by Carolina Café, with a cash bar prior to the performance starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, seniors and military. The evening is sponsored by Miller Lumber, Sentinel Health Partners and Carolina Café.

April Garden Club News

The King Haigler Garden Club will meet on Monday, April 18 at 3:30 p.m. The group will meet at the Jim and Patt Watts Performing Arts Center behind the stage of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County. Hostess Betty Sue Webber along with co-hostesses Margie Lane and Grace Young will provide refreshments.

Recreation Department Easter egg hunts success

The Kershaw County Recreation Department hosted three Easter egg hunts across the county. A total of 4,000 eggs were hidden in Lugoff at Conifer Acres, at the Recreation Department office in Camden and at the Bethune Recreation Center in Bethune. According to Program Director, Amy Peebles, there was a decent crowd at each location.

Camden Lions Club “Walk for Sight”

During the month of March, Lions from all across South Carolina walked the main streets of their respective cities, towns and communities as part of the first annual "South Carolina Lions Walk for Sight" to increase public awareness of Lions' humanitarian services in the state and around the world.

Local student earned Eagle Scout award

Omar Donovan Mingo, a sophomore at Camden High School (CHS), earned the prestigious award of Eagle Scout on November 1. The Eagle Scout award is the highest ranking in the Boy Scouts of America with less than 6% of all scouts reaching this level.

FFTS third annual sod sale fundraiser

Food for the Soul will conduct its third annual sod sales fundraising campaign at the Farmers' Market each Saturday from spring through fall to support its soup kitchen and emergency shelter.

The Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) National Honor Society (NHS) will be holding a Color for the Cure 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 27. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

The Camden Poets Society (CPS) will be sponsoring a Poetry Open Mic Event in honor of National Poetry Month. The event will take place on Tuesday from 6:30-7:45 p.m. at the Kershaw County Library located at 1304 Broad St. in Camden.

L-EHS NHS “Bears for Bear” drive

The Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) National Honor Society (NHS) completed a fundraiser in February for the Children's Hope Bear Drive. The NHS called the drive "Bears for Bear." The drive ran from January 28 to March 1.

Food for the Soul expands board of directors

Food for the Soul (FFS) soup kitchen and emergency shelter added five new Kershaw County residents to its board of directors and announced a record-setting year for meals served in 2012.

Golf tournament for FFS

Food for the Soul's first annual golf tournament will be held Thursday, April 4 at the Camden Country Club (CCC). The tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start.
