Miss Camden, Miss Camden Teen 2016

Grace Marie Smith was crowned Miss Camden 2016 and Cassandra Grace Gibson was crowned Miss Camden Teen 2016 on Saturday evening. Other winners from the night are as follows: Overall Ticket Sales, Garnet Robinson; Overall Ad Sales, Cassandra Grace Gibson; Teen Miss Congeniality, Cassandra Grace Gibson; Teen 1st runner up, Garnet Robinson and Miss Congeniality, Nigeria Myers. The Miss Camden Scholarship Program thanks Camden Military Academy for being a Gold Sponsor of the Miss Camden Pageant and Photography by Julie P.

Ten young ladies will compete for the titles of Miss Camden and Miss Camden Teen 2016 Saturday evening, 6 p.m. at Camden High school. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased from any contestant. Email misscamden for more information.

KCPR Christmas Card Contest winners announced

The Kershaw County Parks and Recreation Department and First Palmetto Savings Bank recently sponsored their annual Christmas Card Contest. The contest is designed to give elementary school students in Kershaw County the opportunity to show off their creativity and artistic skills by sending a Christmas Card. It also gives students the chance to win cash prizes from First Palmetto.

YallFest Book Festival

Students and staff from North Central Middle School and North Central High School recently attended the YallFest Book Festival in Charleston.. This was the 5th annual conference for young adult book authors, which included panel discussions and book signings. The group attended sessions from 11a.m. to 5 p.m. With 63 authors, various book publishers, and 12,000 fans in attendance there was much to see and hear. Lorine celebrates 100 years

Lorine Stogsdill of Camden celebrated her 100th birthday on Nov. 30. She was born Nov. 30, 1915. Lorine celebrated with her family and friends during a huge party and enjoyed a lunch with her grandson, Richard Stogsdill. Her favorite activities are reading the Chronicle-Independent and The State. Lorine is pictured with her cat, Buttermilk.

Girl Scouts collect for Operation Christmas Child

Area Girl Scout troops recently worked together to collect donations for Operation Christmas Child and Toys for Tots, Girl Scout Troop 3415, led by Katie Chmiel, Troops 1278 and 937, both led by Lindsey Cox and Emily Skufca and Troop 3444, led by Cathy Floyd, have collected donations and worked together to fill 70 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child as well as donate to the Toys for Tots organization. The troops are also visiting local nursing homes in the community to spread holiday cheer by caroling to the residents.

Industrial division contributes $270,000 to UWKC

In July, the United Way of Kershaw County (UWKC) kicked off it's 2016-2017 campaign by hosting its Industrial Division luncheon. Representatives from Kershaw County Industries set campaign goals and shared fund raising ideas. Since July, industrial companies in Kershaw County and their employees have raised more than $250,000.

Chamber Choir Christmas Concert, today

The Chamber Choir of Kershaw County will present its annual Christmas Concert today at 7 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County. Joining them in this performance will be area musicians (strings, flute, percussion) and vocalists to celebrate the 25th Christmas Concert.
