Hobkirk Hill Chapter of the DAR hears ‘Preservation of Mount Vernon’

On Oct. 10, at the Price House, the ladies of the Hobkirk Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) were enthralled by Jean Sherill, left, as she presented an informative program about the preservation of Mount Vernon. Sherill has been on the board of the Mount Vernon Ladies Association for 11 years. She shared the story of a group of a ladies who banded together in 1853 to save George Washington's home. Historic Camden War Site to host Revolutionary War Field Days

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Be it known that the 43rd annual Revolutionary War Field Days will be held at Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site on November 2-3. Field Days are a panorama of life during the Colonial and Revolutionary War eras that's entertaining to both families and history buffs.

LeGrand Institute students win at competition

Students at the LeGrand Institute of Cosmetology in Camden recently won a hair competition for Headhunterz -- Styling for the Cure 2013. The event was part of Hair Walk: The Movement, a charity that contributes funds to the South Carolina Oncology Associates Cares Foundation and the Palmetto Health Foundation's Walk for Life 2013. LeGrand Institute competed against the Paul Mitchell school and Virginia College of Columbia. Their selected theme was "water" in this Fantasy Competition. Camden Music Association to present annual Fall Choral Showcase

On November 4 at 7 p.m., the Camden Music Association of Kershaw County (CMA) will present its annual Fall Choral Showcase at the Lugoff-Elgin High School auditorium. Admission is free and the public is invited to enjoy the vocals of eight music ensembles from Kershaw County Schools, as well as the Chamber Choir of Kershaw County under the direction of Dr. Susan Wyatt.

Local Elks Lodge gives to Sacks of Love

Bulldog Regiment to compete at State Championships Saturday

The Camden Bulldog Regiment will compete in the South Carolina Upper State Championships Saturday. The competition is held in Duncan at James F. Byrnes High School. The Bulldog Regiment recently took away several awards at the Blue Jacket Fanfare Marching Competition hosted by Aynor High School. They won first place for Best Drum Major, Best Percussion, Best Color Guard and Best Horn Line. The Bulldog Regiment placed second overall for their division, also taking home a plaque for Excellence and the Blue Jacket Fanfare.

United Way of Kershaw County to hold third annual Chili Cook-off

The United Way of Kershaw County will host its third annual Chili Cook-off on November 9 at downtown Camden's Town Green. Music will be provided by Fair Jam from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Reflections from 12 to 3 p.m. Chili will be served from 12 to 2 p.m. Premier sponsors of the event are SAFE Federal Credit Union and Lugoff Automotive Group.
