Confederate Memorial Day service Sunday

Camden's first Confederate Memorial Day during the Civil War Sesquicentennial will be on Sunday at 12:30 p.m., at the "Confederate Unknown's Plot", in Quaker Cemetery, Camden. Mr. Edward Westbury will be the guest speaker and it is hosted by the John D. Kennedy Chapter #308, UDC and the Joseph B. Kershaw Camp #82, SCV. FAC presents Voices of Camden, Chamber Choir, reception for Camden Art Association

The Voices of Camden, The Quarrel with Oneself, the popular Tony Scully workshop in writing and performing dramatic monologues, is back on the boards for the ninth time. Scheduled for Thursday in the Wood Auditorium at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC,) tickets to the event are $5 at the door.

‘A Warrior’s Stance’ fundraiser held May 5

A fundraiser for "A Warrior's Stance," a community outreach program created to change the lives of Kershaw County youth through arts, drama and dramatic dance, will be held May 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Passages, located at 607 Rutledge St. A Warrior's Stance was founded by Marney L. Wooldridge with the hope of influencing Kershaw County youth to live healthy, active lives. Wooldridge's pilaties/massage therapy studio, Passages, is sponsoring the program. KCL hosts Central Carolina class

The Camden branch of the Kershaw County Library offered a class to Central Carolina students on how to use the library's resources. Above, Clemi Winestock's College Skills 103 class gets a tour of the library by Cris Wilson, reference and adult service librarian. Students learned about SC Lends and how to locate books for research.

Charleston Horticulture Society visits Camden for garden tour

Hats off to Camden Garden Club member Barbara Beard. She has, over the last couple of years, put together a fabulous tour of gardens. These gardens though, are not just in Camden. She has coordinated with other garden clubs from around the state and they alternate where the tours will be.

Quilts of Valor honors 5 Kershaw County veterans

Five Kershaw County veterans received quilts in the Douglas Reed House at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County this week. The Kershaw County Quilters branch of the Quilts of Valor Foundation recognized the veterans for their service in conflicts dating back to the Korean War.
