Autumn Attic Sale to benefit

The Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County (CMCKC) will host its annual Autumn Attic Sale in Springdale Plaza between Belk's and Goodwill, beginning with a preview party September 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. The cost is $20 at the door and all who attend receive priority shopping opportunities and champagne.

United Way of Kershaw County to host county-wide ‘Day of Caring’

The United Way of Kershaw County (UWKC) will host a county-wide "Day of Caring" on Wednesday. The purpose of this event is to unite volunteers throughout the county to work at various projects like reading to children, leading financial literacy classes for hard-working families or delivering meals to homebound seniors to positively impact the community.

Kershaw County youth wins first place in 4H gardening competition

Katherine Ellig of the Kershaw County 4H Horse Club has been named first place senior division winner in the 4H Gardening Project competition. Scores from Ellig's garden and record book will allow her to advance to the regional competition.

Woman on a mission

Like many other graduates fresh out of college, Kaleigh Ward had plans to find a job and a house and begin her life as a young professional. Ward graduated in May from Furman University with a major in Sociology and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. This bright, articulate young woman had plans to stay in the upstate, Greenville area where she had begun to establish herself. She had plenty of friends there, a good gym and was plugged in to a local church. For Ward, life was good and the future seemed bright and comfortable.

Camden, Lugoff officials ‘squeeze’ for a charitable cause on Tuesday

Tuesday was National Lemonade Day and Chick - Fil-A celebrated by hosting a "squeeze off" between the Camden Police and Fire Departments versus a team made up of the Lugoff Fire Department and the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office to see who could squeeze the most lemons to make the most lemonade in a certain amount of time. Camden won, and as winners, they were allowed to donate the lemonade to the charity of their choice. They chose to give 30 gallons to Food for the Soul and 10 gallons to the Council on Aging.

Salon to host Chemo with Style Event

Roxie Hart Salon of Camden will host "Chemo with Style" August 27 and October 29. This event is free and open to community members who are undergoing or who have recently undergone chemotherapy. The session will demonstrate how to wear turbans, scarves and wigs and will also give away these items.

Johnson’s inspirational journey of ‘loss’

Camden native Brandie Johnson can be described as a hard worker in many respects. She graduated from Camden High School in 1999 and then four years later graduated from Columbia College with a B.S. in Business Administration. She has raised a daughter, Madaline, who is now 15. She also manages the office at McCoy Nursing Home in Bishopville.

Several Kershaw County youths attend Palmetto Boys State

American Legion Palmetto Boys State is one of the most prestigious summer programs for rising seniors in the state. Boys State is a national American Legion sponsored program that began in 1935 and is held annually in every state except Hawaii.

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 8346 and Ladies Auxiliary of Ridgeway, received the Outstanding Community Service Post Award at the National Convention in Louisville, Ky., on July, 22. The reception was invitation only.
