Camden ties to Columbia baseball team

Tryouts were held in August and October to choose the players for the Team South Carolina baseball team (9U). The team played two tournaments in November and December (taking first place in the Winterfest NIT tournament in Lexington) before traveling to Orlando, Fla. to play in the Global Winter World Series Championship (Dec. 27-30). Team South Carolina played eight games and finished as runner-ups in the World Series and were awarded the Runner-up plaque and each player received a World Series Runner-up medal. FAC to hold ‘Snow White’ auditions Sunday, Monday

Auditions for Snow White, a collaboration with the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County and Columbia Children's Theatre, will be held Jan. 16 and 17 in the Wood Auditorium at the FAC from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Snow White will be directed by Jerry Stevenson, artistic director of the Columbia Children's Theatre. All children ages 6 and up are encouraged to come and participate. There is no audition fee.

Camden Garden Club to host first meeting of new year

The Camden Garden Club will hold its next meeting on Monday at the home of Mrs. Nancy Langston. The house is a sprawling ranch with an open floorplan making it perfect for a meeting. The program this month is all about living with orchids. The speaker will be Mr. Stan Hutto who is the past president of the South Carolina Orchid Society.

Looking back on 2010

I have mixed feelings looking back over 2010. In some ways, yes, I'll admit I'm happy to welcome in a fresh year. Starting a new year with new goals can't be a bad thing. But while many of my peers are saying "good riddance" to the year 2010, I can't really agree. I've been fortunate enough to have many "firsts" that made 2010 solid for me.

Students ‘Live United,’ donate money

Students from North Central High School presented a $4,000 check to United Way of Kershaw County during the December board meeting. The students have raised money all year from selling snow cones, hot chocolate, pizza and hosting a bonfire dance.

Local veterans respect the flag through disposal

Members of American Legion Post 195, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8346 and AMVETS Post 33 recently joined together for an annual tradition: the disposal -- through burning -- of unserviceable American flags. The ceremony took place at VFW Post 8346's headquarters in Ridgeway, with all three posts participating in different parts of the ceremony.
