Lights of Love fund-raising project to begin Nov. 15

Happy 60th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Dennie Riley are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Dennie and Flossie were married on Oct. 28th, 1950 in Springfield, Ga. Formerly of Savannah, Ga., they have lived in Camden since 1981. They are members of Mt. Moriah Bapt. Church where they serve in many ministries. They devote many hours volunteering in the soup kitchen, and visiting the sick in the community. They are blessed with one son and two daughters. Local AKA ladies donate products to Sistercare

During this month's IMPACT meeting at the Health Resource Center the Iota Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. donated products such as clothes, child care and toiletry items to Sistercare. Sistercare is a United Way partner that provides services and shelter for battered women. Rusty Davis Band to perform at Finally Friday

It's time for the Halloween edition of Finally Friday free outdoor concert series at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC). This month the Rusty Davis Band will take the stage for this special edition of Finally Friday. Along with the concert, there will be a special "trunk r' treat" competition, face painting, and costume contests for both children and adults. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes in several categories as well as for best decorated trunk. The fun begins at 6 p.m., Friday behind the Wood Auditorium stage.

Bethune Lions and Woman’s clubs united for common cause

The Bethune Lions Club and the Bethune Woman's Club have similar objectives -- to work toward the betterment of their community by promoting its civic, cultural, educational, and social welfare. To this end, these two clubs work closely together. The clubs are voluntary service organizations committed to undertaking humanitarian projects within their community.

Community Medical Clinic receives $10,000 grant from First Citizens Foundation

The Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County has been caring for uninsured residents of Kershaw County for 12 years. The number of patients with diabetes has steadily increased since 1998 when the clinic opened its doors. The First Citizens Foundation helped meet a growing need to focus on the prevention of diabetes in obese patients. Hospital Auxiliary names winners of golf tourney, provides scholarships to local students

The 21 annual Hospital Auxiliary golf tournament was held Sept. 17 at White Pines Golf Course. Teams sponsored by businesses and individuals participated in the Captain's Choice competition.

Mobile food pantry visits Divine Faith Church

Bishop Isaac Miller of the Divine Faith Church has spent 27 years dedicated to looking after the well-being of people in Bethune. While the small church he founded in 1983 serves as a source of spiritual comfort for a congregation of approximately 50 members, the church also provides a monthly outreach to the community by serving the gift of food to up to 85 families by serving as a Mobile Food Pantry (MFP) site for Harvest Hope Food Bank.

Local veterans respect the flag through disposal

Members of American Legion Post 195, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8346 and AMVETS Post 33 recently joined together for an annual tradition: the disposal -- through burning -- of unserviceable American flags. The ceremony took place at VFW Post 8346's headquarters in Ridgeway, with all three posts participating in different parts of the ceremony.
