Lisa Lindsay to speak at Camden Archives and Museum

Lisa Lindsay, Bowman and Gordon Gray Distinguished Term Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies of the history department at North Carolina University at Chapel Hill, will speak at 1 p.m., April 22, at the Camden Archives and Museum. The program is sponsored by The Old Camden District Genealogy Society. The public is invited.

4-H Legislative Day, local 4-Hers visit state capital

Some of South Carolina's brightest young people, including Kershaw County 4-Hers, recently visited the state capital to meet with legislators and share the impact 4-H has had on their lives and their communities. South Carolina 4-H continues to teach and inspire young people to do great things. Speakers for the event were State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman and Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers, whom are both alumni of 4-H.

Food for the Soul golf tournament, Thursday

The Food for the Soul annual golf tournament will be held at Camden Country Club on March 30, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and a meal served after the tournament. Putting contests and closest to hole competition will be held and mulligans will be available. A silent auction will be held and it starts at 10 a.m. Drawings for door prizes will be held after the meal. All proceeds benefit FFTS. For more information call Eddie Schoolfield at 432-8391.

Finally Friday local jam kicks off Cup weekend

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) will kick off the Carolina Cup weekend again this year with the Finally Friday Free Concert Series Local Jam--A Carolina Cup Weekend Kick Off Friday on the Town Green. The event will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. Refreshments will be available for purchase, so please leave coolers at home. Rain location is the Venue On Broad.

Emanuel: Love is the Answer at FAC April 4

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County will present Emanuel: Love is the Answer an original multimedia ballet produced by the Columbia City Ballet (CCB) on Tuesday, April 4 at 7 p.m. This world premiere performance, choreographed and directed by William Starrett, is dedicated to the memory of Fred Sheheen, long-time supporter of both the FAC and the CCB. Graduation is almost here

It is almost here … Graduation day for the class of 2017. This day that has seemed so far away for so long is now right in front of our faces. The ever present excitement of summer break can be found looming through the hallways as students, of all ages, are discussing their summer plans. While the seniors are excited for summer break, we also have that overwhelming sense of change in the very near future.

UWKC fundraising event at Lugoff Ford this Saturday

The United Way of Kershaw County (UWKC) will be hosting a test drive event at Lugoff Ford, sponsored by Ford National, this Saturday March 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each test drive by participants will result in a $20 donation to the UWKC at no financial cost to the participant. Participants must be over 18 years old and have a valid drivers license.

Camden Community Concert Band Winter concert

The Camden Community Concert Band will present their Winter concert on Sunday, March 19 at 3 p.m. at Camden High School. The concert is free and open to the public. The CCCB is in its 37th year of presenting music to the Camden and Kershaw County area. The band has four concerts per year – two in Rectory Square Park and two at Camden High School. Sunday's concert features include "Highlights from Frozen," "Danny Boy" and crowd favorite "Classical Gas" and many other favorites

Lugoff Garden Club hosts fundraiser

The Lugoff Garden Club will host an auction fundraiser, Monday March 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rowan Presbyterian Church. There will also be a short business meeting and soup supper. Monetary donations will be accepted. Items will be auctioned by a starting auction bid and a short hint description. The auctioneer is Henry Powers and the Hostess is Sandy McComb. Never too young to start a bucket list

A bucket list need not become a consideration only for the midlife crises victims or terminally ill. In fact, any time is a good time to put some consideration into that good old bucket. Bucket lists can help us to have goals to aim towards and therefore help us to lead happier lives due to the sense of newfound purpose.

Wateree Elementary School vocabulary parade

After reading the story Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster by Debra Frasier, fifth grade students from Wateree Elementary School recently participated in their very own vocabulary parade. The Wateree Elementary School Vocabulary Parade was far from disastrous; it was fabulous! Students paraded in costumes they created to represent vocabulary terms. The costumes were quite creative and many vocabulary lessons were learned.
