Marie Kelly Branham, 90, of Elgin, SC, died Friday, May 25, 2012. Born in Tookiedoo, SC on September 4, 1921, she was a daughter of the late John Mannes Kelly and Gazell Abbott Kelly. Marie was a beloved fixture in the Elgin community, owning and operating Branham's Grocery for 31 years, working alongside her husband on the family cotton and corn farm, and serving as nurse for anyone in need in the area. Evans Kellogg Whiting, 73, died early Sunday morning, May 6, after a fall from his roof in Kailua, HI. He had been photographing the full moon. She spent many years managing the business side of the studio at their Glen Echo home of her former husband, artist Pierre Mion, and then became secretary of Kenwood Country Club, in Bethesda, MD, after a brief period at US News & World Report.
