Mr. Leslie Wood, 88, of Lugoff, departed this life Sunday July 31, 2011 at Kershaw Health, Camden. He was a Veteran of World War II United States Army. He was a retiree of E. I. DuPont, Camden South Carolina. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years; Mrs. Viola S. Wood, four daughters; Byrdyne (Franklin) Bell of Augusta, GA, Brenda Wood of Lugoff, SC, Sandra Wood of Columbia, SC and Shelia (Floyd) Bracey of Lugoff, SC; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister; Inez Cunningham of Lugoff, SC and a host of other relatives and friends.
Charles V.B. Cushman, Jr., age 85, of Camden, died Monday, August 1, 2011 at his summer home in Chadds Ford, PA., that he shared with his wife, Joanne Bahr Cushman. Charlie was born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 9, 1926, and spent his childhood in Upperville, Virginia. His entire adult life was spent in Camden. Charlie worked extensively in thoroughbred horse racing and training and he was very active in supporting the Kershaw County Hospital Foundation as well as the Camden equestrian community. Mr. Sam Doc "Nick" Wells Sr., 87, of Camden, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Born in Camden. he was the son of the late Ezekiel, Sr. and Leila Jones Wells. A Celebration of Life and Homegoing Services will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 at One p.m., at Union Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery, Rembert. Tommie Rye Downey Pylant died January 25, 2015 after a short illness. She was 100 years old. Born on July 6, 1914 in Hohenwald, TN, she was the daughter of James R. and Ethel D. Downey. She was the secretary to the Headmaster at Camden Military Academy for many years. The Academy named a residence on the campus 'Pylant House' in honor of her service to the School. She was an active member of the McRae Road Church of Christ for over 50 years.
Mary Hazel Ray Few, 79, of Liberty Hill passed away Tuesday morning, January 27th, nearly a year of the death of her husband, William Eugene "Coach Bill" Few who passed February 6th, 2014. Hazel is survived by sons Martin Alan, Gerald Stephen, Joel Brian, Timothy Scott, Christopher Todd, and daughter Dr. Suzanne Quinn. Bill and Hazel also have a deceased son William Eugene. Her surviving grandchildren are Chip, Brooke, Todd, Derek, Billy, Jesse, Justin, Stephen, Anna, Bobby, Timothy, Stephanie, Jouji, Madie and three great grandchildren Trent, Indee, and Leon.
