Community contributes to Brayden’s ‘miracle’

People from the Lugoff community and beyond are contributing to the ongoing miracle named Brayden who survived a non-fatal drowning in a family pool on Jan. 23. Brayden, who was actually in cardiac arrest, managed to be resuscitated but remained comatose. Four days later, his parents, Kelley and Zach, were told he might never wake up and, if he did, would never walk again.

Helping kids go to Camp Woodie

Camden Walmart Store Manager Missy Foster presents a $2,000 check to, from left, Leon Prosser and Paul Napper, members of the Wateree Chapter of the S.C. Waterfowl Association (SCWA). The money will be go toward helping the organization send at-risk youth from Kershaw County to the SCWA's Camp Woodie in Pinewood in Sumter County. Prosser and Napper thanked Foster not only for this year's check, which she presented March 13, but one the company gave for the same amount in 2016.

Three new Guardians ad Litem sworn in

Three members of the Kershaw County community were sworn in by the Honorable Dana A. Morris as volunteers in the Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Program. These individuals join a group who serves as a voice for abused and neglected children throughout the area.

KCC to give final read to solicitation and ordinance

Kershaw County Council will hold public hearing on and then consider third and final reading of an ordinance that would amend the soliciting ordinance for organizations who wish to solicit from motorists. Council will also consider first reading, in title only, of an ordinance allowing the county to abate rubbish, debris, junk and other materials that constitute a common public nuisance and affect the health and general welfare of the citizens of Kershaw County.
