On 5-1 vote, county council endorses VisionKershaw 2030

With a 5-1 vote during its March 8 meeting, a majority of Kershaw County Council endorsed the final draft of the VisionKershaw 2030 report. Presented by Heritage Bank Vice President Dennis Stuber, a member of the core group working on the vision document, and Santee-Lynches Council of Governments Economic and Community Sustainability Director Kyle Kelly, VisionKershaw 2030 lays out the framework for economic growth; effective land use; county service excellence; quality infrastructure and transportation; and a lifetime of education, health, culture and recreation for the next 14 years.

LWA to hold annual meeting Saturday

The Lake Wateree Association (LWA) will hold its annual meeting Saturday, beginning with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at Rock Bottom Pond, 1530 Buck Road, Ridgeway. The meeting itself will start at 9 a.m. and is expected to end before noon.

County council approves Fiscal Year 2017 goals

During a brief, 20-minute meeting Tuesday, Kershaw County Council unanimously approved a list of Fiscal Year 2016-17 short- and long-term goals members and staff hammered out a Jan. 29-30 retreat. Council voted 5-0 with Councilman Sammie Tucker Jr. absent and the District 1 seat vacant until a special election set for March 29.

Congaree Land Trust adds Kershaw County easement

With the closing of an approximately 1,865-acre conservation easement in Kershaw County, the Congaree Land Trust (CLT) recently surpassed a milestone of protecting 60,000 acres of state land. According to a CLT press release, the latest easement borders Spears Creek and the Wateree River and brings the total of protected land to approximately 61,300 acres.

Tourism director provides partnership update to county

Suzi Sale, the city of Camden's tourism director and interim economic development director, provided an update to Kershaw County Council of efforts her office is making to promoting both Camden and the county to tourists. Sale made her report during a presentation at council's meeting Tuesday evening.

Historic Camden to make presentation to county

Dr. Tray Dunaway, chairman of the Historic Camden Foundation, will make a presentation concerning the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site during tonight's Kershaw County Council meeting. Historic Camden which recently hired Amy Sheheen as its interim executive director, is expected to announce a "transformation plan" for 2016.
