New county government phone system, numbers in effect

At the request of Kershaw County's IT coordinator, the county recently installed a new phone system that required new direct dial numbers for each county department. The new numbers went into effect last week, and can be found at the county's website, www.kershaw.sc.gov.

Former deputies awarded wrongful termination settlement

Two Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies who were fired following the Republican primary election in June -- allegedly for failing to back Capt. David Thomley in the election -- were paid approximately $50,000 each from the S.C. Association of Counties (SCAC) Properties and Liabilities Trust, according to County Administrator Clay Young.

Farmers market to host Farm Day

From 8 a.m. to noon the regular vendors will be joined by artisan vendors selling wool, pottery, soap, glass and wood wares. There will be live farm animals from Old McCaskill's Farm, and bees from Bell Honey to observe. New and antique farm equipment will be used to demonstrate activities from farms of today and yesterday. There will be carriage rides, and Jansen Cox will bring his heritage breed horses for youngsters to ride. A quilting demonstration will showcase a timeless talent. And Jeff Clark will entertain visitors with live music.

L-EWA customers may pay more next summer

An early draft of the Lugoff-Elgin Water Authority's (L-EWA) fiscal year 2012 budget -- handed out during the L-EWA Board of Directors' Nov. 4 meeting -- recommends a rate increase that'll add $9 per month onto a customer signed on for the minimum residential usage, totaling more than $110 for the year.

Boland, Wright file wrongful arrest lawsuit

Former Kershaw County Administrator Bobby Boland and current Kershaw County Utilities Director Russell Wright filed a federal wrongful arrest lawsuit Tuesday against Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) Capt. David Thomley. Boland and Wright are claiming Thomley violated their civil rights.
