22nd annual Boykin Christmas Parade

Dec. 20 marked the 22nd run of the Boykin Christmas Parade, known for its unique floats and characters. Parade entries from all over Kershaw County participated in the parade including the Boykin Alligator Queen "Miz Boykin" and the Fat Back Queen. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus also made an appearance.

Santa greets Kershaw County children

Santa greeted children at the Kershaw County Government Center on Dec. 15. During the morning, he met (starting with first picture) Jessie Brice, Landon Ward and Kimberly Chancey. Throughout the day, children filled out letters to Santa, indicating whether they'd been naughty or nice (we're pretty sure they all said they'd been nice) and letting him know what they wanted for Christmas and their wishes for the new year. Bethune looking forward to upcoming year

Upgrades for the town water system and a search for a new police chief will continue to be projects for Bethune Town Council for the foreseeable future. Council met Thursday for its last meeting of 2015 at the Bethune Recreation Center, followed by a community covered dish meal.

The deadline to file for a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan for physical damages from October's severe storms and flooding is Jan. 4, 2016.

Special election for Mickle’s Kershaw County Council seat set for March 29

A special election to fill the District 1 Kershaw County Council seat recently vacated by Willie Mickle is set for March 29, according to County Voter Registration Director John Caughman. Caughman said if more than one person files for their party's nomination to fill the seat, a primary would be held on Feb. 9. If necessary, a runoff would be held Feb. 23.
