KCSD to propose millage increase to county council

Kershaw County Council is set to hear a millage rate increase proposal from Kershaw County School District (KCSD) officials during Tuesday's council meeting. County Administrator Vic Carpenter said the bulk of the presentation will be related to the millage and the overall budget, but also indicated KCSD officials may address other topics.

Getting closer

KC Housing Authority gains guidance during trip

Members of the Kershaw County Housing Authority traveled to Lake City and Sumter Monday to gather advice on moving forward with affordable housing projects in the community. Kershaw County United Way President Donnie Supplee, who helped spearhead efforts to establish a local housing authority, said it was a very informative trip.

KCC finalizes noise ordinance

Kershaw County Council looked to give residents a respite from potentially noisy neighbors Tuesday after approving third reading of an excessive noise limitation ordinance. The proposal was supported on a 5-2 vote with Councilman C.R. Miles and Council Vice Chairman Sammie Tucker Jr. voting against third reading.

KCC to look at employee pay increases

Kershaw County Council is set to take up a resolution Tuesday providing cost of living adjustments for county employees. County Administrator Vic Carpenter said the resolution will essentially formalize all paperwork regarding a 2 percent pay increase.

KCC tables penny sales tax

Kershaw County Council effectively killed a county-wide penny sales tax proposal Tuesday set to be considered by voters this November. Members unanimously voted, 6-0, to table second reading of the plan, which according to County Attorney Ken Dubose pushed the timetable for approval by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) beyond a recommended deadline.

Rescue group does more thanks to grants

Kershaw County-based Dog4U Inc. Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is pleased to announce the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' (ASPCA) sponsorship through a grant award of $1,000 in support of its equine program. The grant award will help alleviate a third of Dog4U's hay costs for the 10 horses under its care for 2012.

KCC revives potential noise ordinance

Kershaw County Council's introduction of a noise limitation ordinance will rehash a proposal put forward by council about two years ago, according to Kershaw County Attorney Ken DuBose. DuBose said a plan to establish such an ordinance was previously in the works, but only received two readings before ultimately failing to be approved.
