FAC seeks input on theater projects

What live community theater or musical performances would you like to see or, even better, be part of in Camden? That's the question being asked by the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County as it reaches out to the community for input on how better to interact with the public in fun and productive ways.

Four-way stop coming to Bethune

The town of Bethune is getting traffic assistance from the S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) with the installation of a four-way stop at the intersection of U.S. 1 (King Street) and S.C. 341 (Main Street). The intersection currently has flashing yellow caution lights for U.S. 1 traffic and flashing red stop lights for S.C. 341.

Tucker still living in District 2

Kershaw County District 2 Councilman Sammie Tucker Jr. has changed his residence, but still lives in District 2, which keeps him eligible to serve on council. Tucker said a pending divorce resulted in his home on Spring Hill Road being foreclosed and, during the past several weeks, he has been staying with a relative.

KCC to consider final readings on ordinances

Kershaw County Council will consider third and final readings on three ordinances related to planning and zoning Tuesday evening. All ordinances require three separate readings and public hearings before going into effect. All three were passed unanimously on their first two readings.

FAC receives most from Midlands Gives campaign

Six nonprofit organizations in Kershaw County participated in the second annual Midlands Gives on May 5. Midlands Gives is a 24 hour online financial campaign organized by the Central Carolina Community Foundation (CCCF). A total of 252 nonprofits from the Midlands participated in the event which allowed people to give a minimum of $20 to their favorite organization.

Boykin Spring Fling trail ride

Boykin's Spring Fling will celebrate history and horses. The South Carolina Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site will host the Boykin Spring Fling Trail Ride on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m., with the last riders leaving at 1 p.m. This trail ride is not timed and provides a unique opportunity for riders of all ages to explore scenic private farms and woods in the historic Boykin community.

Funds available for fish and wildlife habitat

Qualifying government agencies and nonprofit organizations wanting to protect fish and wildlife habitats along the Catawba-Wateree River and its tributaries are encouraged to submit applications for grants provided by Duke Energy's Catawba-Wateree Habitat Enhancement Program (CWHEP).

March to end sexual violence and child abuse held in Camden

Rosalyn Moses, executive director of the Family Resource Center (FRC), addresses a crowd in front of the Kershaw County Courthouse on April 18 following a march to end sexual violence and child abuse. The march began at The Price House and ended at the courthouse where awards were presented to recipients who help in the fight against these issues.
