Johnson takes oath as solicitor
Already sworn in Wednesday afternoon as the 5th Circuit's new solicitor, Dan Johnson decided to hold a second ceremony early Thursday evening at the Kershaw County Courthouse. The 5th Circuit is made up of Kershaw and Richland counties and the fact that they are very different counties didn't escape Johnson in either his prepared remarks or an exclusive interview after the ceremony.

The County of Kershaw posted the following message on Facebook Sunday afternoon: All County Government Offices, Recycle Centers, and Landfill will be closed on Monday, January 10th 2011 due to Inclement Weather. County officials will evaluate the weather on Monday to determine if offices will reopen on Tuesday at 8:30 am or be delayed later Tuesday Morning.
County vehicle use policy pending
While the bulk of a crowded Kershaw County Council meeting Tuesday belonged to new Sheriff Jim Matthews and his requests for additional manpower, a policy for the use of county-owned vehicles also brought about some contention between several council members.
Sheriff requests $250,000 to create traffic unit
Five hours after being sworn in Tuesday, Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews asked Kershaw County Council for extra money to create a new traffic enforcement unit and enhanced victims advocate services. Matthews made the requests during a "State of the Sheriff's Office" report he gave to Kershaw County Council before a crowd of more than 100 people.

LFD gives KCC good news
