The Emu (first picture) seems to be smiling in welcome to visitors to Goat Daddy's Farm in Elgin. Goat Daddy's, located near Elgin in Kershaw County, is a 25-acre, eco-friendly operation specializing in raising heritage breed chickens, turkeys and guinea fowl as well as Nigerian Pygmy Goats (second picture). Goat Daddy's was one of four area farms, including Boykin Mill Farms, Old McCaskill's Farm and Pear Tree Farms that participated during this year's Ag&Art Tour, held this past weekend in Kershaw County.

KCHS temporarily suspends dog intakes and adoptions

Due to a recent influx of suspicious cases of the canine distemper virus, the Kershaw County Humane Society (KCHS) has temporarily suspended the intake and adoption of dogs at the Thiel-Meyer Pet Adoption Center on Black River Road in Camden. The suspension will be in place until every dog at the center has been tested and cleared of the virus, according to a Kershaw County government press release.
