Officials advised town of Bethune residents to boil their water for approximately 24 hours starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Bethune Town Clerk Janice Hunter said a water pressure valve failed to work properly, causing the problem.
Kershaw County Council is set to hear a millage rate increase proposal from Kershaw County School District (KCSD) officials during Tuesday's council meeting. The town of Bethune is getting traffic assistance from the S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) with the installation of a four-way stop at the intersection of U.S. 1 (King Street) and S.C. 341 (Main Street). The intersection currently has flashing yellow caution lights for U.S. 1 traffic and flashing red stop lights for S.C. 341.
Kershaw County District 2 Councilman Sammie Tucker Jr. has changed his residence, but still lives in District 2, which keeps him eligible to serve on council. Tucker said a pending divorce resulted in his home on Spring Hill Road being foreclosed and, during the past several weeks, he has been staying with a relative.
