KCC mulls KershawHealth appointment policy

Despite not taking any formal vote, Kershaw County Council tried to hash out details Tuesday on making new appointments to the KershawHealth Board of Trustees. During the meeting's council/administrator briefing period, County Administrator Vic Carpenter presented recommendations for making appointments, but noted council could revise his proposal.

KCC moves forward with setting millage rate

Aiming to get county tax notices out by October, Kershaw County Council unanimously approved first reading in title only of an ordinance setting the county's millage rate during its meeting Tuesday. County Administrator Vic Carpenter explained that approving the ordinance on first reading in title only allows council to flesh out the actual "body" of the ordinance before council's meeting Sept. 11.

Lake Wateree Association looks to improve lake safety

Members of the Lake Wateree Association (LWA) are currently working on a series of new safety initiatives to enhance life at the lake. Former LWA Chairman Ron Kadan said the push for improved safety measures was recently initiated after members of the organization reflected on a deadly boating accident along the shores of Lake Murray in Richland County.

Boil advisory issued in Bethune

Officials advised town of Bethune residents to boil their water for approximately 24 hours starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Bethune Town Clerk Janice Hunter said a water pressure valve failed to work properly, causing the problem.

Getting closer

KC Housing Authority gains guidance during trip

Members of the Kershaw County Housing Authority traveled to Lake City and Sumter Monday to gather advice on moving forward with affordable housing projects in the community. Kershaw County United Way President Donnie Supplee, who helped spearhead efforts to establish a local housing authority, said it was a very informative trip.
