CMA hazing trial begins today
The trial in a federal case of alleged hazing involving sexual assault at Camden Military Academy (CMA) will begin Monday, according to one of the attorneys representing the purported victim from Woodstock, Ga.
Woman shoots at burglary suspects
A homeowner shot at three burglary suspects after they set off her alarm system, waking her up during the early morning hours of June 1. The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) tracked down and arrested the three young men shortly afterward.

The family of a man who died in 2011 after being arrested by the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO). Two men allegedly stole while victims slept
Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators arrested two male suspects, one a juvenile, after they allegedly entered a home in East Camden while the occupants slept and stole an iPhone, car keys and a small quantity of cash. These items had been on the night stand next to where the occupants were sleeping. They subsequently stole a vehicle after leaving the home.

Second arrest in fatal accident
A second arrest was made in the case of a fatal hit-and-run in Elgin on March 1. 26-year-old Jesus Corona Cabal, of Columbia, was charged with accessory after the fact for helping the driver involved in the hit and run "destroy" the 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse that hit and killed Derk Lawrence Maricle of Lugoff, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly said.

CMA hazing trial continues in Columbia
A federal jury is hearing testimony this week as the trial begins of a lawsuit brought against Camden Military Academy (CMA). In the trial's first days, attorneys for a former cadet have brought forward testimony and evidence they say show that, in 2008, other CMA students raped the then 13-year-old boy, according to news reports. The former cadet, listed in the lawsuit only as "JBC," is now 18.
