Bond denied again for 2011 rape suspect

A circuit court judge denied bond Friday for a Columbia man accused of the October 2011 carjacking of a woman in Columbia and raping her in Kershaw County. Franklin Graham, 26, who faces charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping, has been held without bond in the Kershaw County Detention Center since his arrest 16 months ago. A judge initially denied Graham bond shortly after his arrest in 2011. Since being detained, he has been additionally charged with being a prisoner carrying or concealing a weapon, according to online court records.

Patrol cars struck during chase; two arrested

Two people from North Carolina are in jail following a high speed chase Tuesday on I-20 into Lee County where one of the suspects rammed a Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) patrol car and one from Lee County. In a press release, KCSO identified those arrested as Clinton Harris, 30, and Jametrice Jacobs, 26, both of North Carolina.

KCSO seizes $342,000 worth of counterfeit items

Acting on information received from the Tennessee Attorney General's Office, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators seized $342,000 worth of counterfeit trademark logos from a county residence and arrested Frederick L. Bartlett, 65, of Elgin.

SCHP looking for car that killed Lugoff man

The S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) and Crimestoppers is looking for any information that might lead them to a car that struck and killed Derk Lawrence Maricle, 50, of Lugoff, early Friday morning. A SCHP spokesperson said Maricle was walking north on Blaney Road some time before 3 a.m. Friday when an unknown vehicle apparently struck and killed him. The collision took place near U.S. 1 near the Richland County line.

Internet sexual predator sentenced to 20 years

A Gastonia, N.C., man arrested in March 2012 caught in a Internet sexual predator sting and accused of engaging in sexual relations with a 15-year-old Kershaw County girl will now spend up to the next 20 years in prison.

I-20 ramp accident

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) personnel work to extricate two passengers from this car around 1 p.m. Thursday, which apparently rolled over several times after having gone up an embankment on the eastbound I-20 ramp at Camden Exit 98. Dispatchers initially told the LF-R the accident took place on I-20 itself, but Lugoff Rescue 10, Service 10 and Battalion 1 soon found the accident was on the ramp. LF-R crews stabilized the vehicle and successfully extricated both patients with rescue tools.
