Like a scene from a movie, a man jumps out of a van at night, shoots at four deputies and flees into some woods. He empties his gun's chamber, tosses it and continues on foot with bloodhounds chasing after him. He escapes … at least for now.

Motorcyclist can’t outrun dispatchers

Even speeding into Camden at estimated speeds of 120 mph, a 19-year-old Columbia man couldn't outrun Kershaw County Central (911) Communication dispatchers Saturday. In a press release, the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) identified the man as Herman Lorenzo Bulluck III of Columbia.

Man charged with shooting granddaughter’s boyfriend

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators arrested a county man after he allegedly shot his granddaughter's boyfriend early Saturday morning. A KCSO press release identified the arrested man as Heyward B. Jacobs, 69, and that he has been charged with attempted murder.

Pine Grove firefighter dies in collision

A long-time Pine Grove Fire Department volunteer firefighter died early Friday following a vehicle collision. A Lugoff man is being held on a felony DUI charge at the Kershaw County Detention Center.

Camden firefighters check out the remains of an external light fixture at the entrance to the Camden Archives and Museum around mid-morning Wednesday. Car crash kills one

A 55-year-old woman died at Kershaw Medical Center on Saturday evening after a single-car collision on U.S. 1 and Campbell Street in Camden. Michelle Ludy was trapped in the passenger side seat for an "extended amount of time" after her husband, Mike Ludy, ran their vehicle off the road and struck a tree near Rite Aid Pharmacy around 7:30 p.m., according to Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers. Mike Ludy was treated for injuries at Kershaw Medical Center and was transferred to Palmetto Richland Hospital, Fellers said. Ludy was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m.

A Lugoff man was arrested Monday in connection to a home invasion robbery earlier this month and a September burglary. Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators arrested Tanner Reece Brittain, 21, is facing charges following the home invasion Oct. 7 in which he allegedly kicked in the door of a residence and robbed the home owner at gunpoint. Brittain is also being charged with a burglary that occurred Sept. 19 in which he allegedly stole several firearms. Lugoff Fire-Rescue and Kershaw County Fire Service join forces with Special Operations Team

Kershaw County residents are now provided better emergency response with the recent formation of the Special Operations Team, a cooperative effort between the Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) Department and the Kershaw County Fire Service. The team specializes in accidents involving hazardous materials, unusual rescues and other unique situations. LF-R Battalion Chief Chris Spitzer said the 20 team members were handpicked from the best firefighters around the county and had to receive extra training for the situations they may encounter.
