Student arrested for bringing loaded gun to school

The Camden Police Department (CPD) arrested an 18-year-old Camden High School (CHS) student Feb. 10 for bringing a loaded gun on campus. According to a CPD report, officers arrested Johnquevious "Jay" Dashon-James Johnston, 18, of Chesnut Street, after an officer received information Johnson had brought the gun to school with him the day before.

More swift water rescuers coming to Lugoff

Lugoff-Fire Rescue (LF-R) will be adding more members to its Swift Water Rescue Team thanks to recent approval by the Lugoff Fire District Board of Commissions to send 10 more firefighters for swift water rescue certification.

Significant heroin seizure leads to Camden man’s arrest

For several years, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) narcotics investigators received tips about 32-year-old Ronald Jason Boone selling heroin in the county. Thanks to those tips and narcotics agent surveillance, Boone, 32, of Fairfax Drive, Camden is behind bars, held on $200,000 bond for trafficking heroin and other drug charges.

Sheriff Matthews is Elks’ 2016 Camarena award winner

The S.C. Elks Association (SCEA) presented its 2016 Enrique "Kiki" Camarena award to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews at its recent South Carolina Winter conference in Myrtle Beach. The Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks established the award to recognize and honor law enforcement officers who have made a significant contribution in the field of drug abuse prevention and who personify Agent Camarena's belief "one person can make a difference."

During the past week, two Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies managed to avoid head-on crashes with drunk drivers in separate incidents. In both cases, the deputies happened to be part of the KCSO's traffic unit and were able to arrest the drivers and charge them with driving under the influence (DUI).

KCSO arrests suspected burglar after manhunt

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies and Bethune Police Chief Joey Cobb arrested a Bethune man following a manhunt Wednesday morning in connection with a series of burglaries in the area. According to a KCSO press release, Cobb and deputies arrested Jeremy Rashad Woodall, 22, of Dinkins Circle, Bethune and charged him with multiple counts of second degree burglary.

Man leads deputies on 30-mile chase

During the early morning hours Saturday, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested Rasheed Timothy Sumpter, 25, of Bishopville, following a lengthy high speed pursuit which began in Kershaw County and ended up in Lee County. According to a KCSO press release, deputies charged Sumpter with failure to stop for a blue light, malicious injury to personal property, resisting arrest and DUI.
