A Camden High School ROTC instructor was placed on administrative leave by the Kershaw County School District (KCSD) after being charged Jan. 19 with allegedly pointing a gun at a 12-year-old neighbor in December.
Woman arrested in pawn shop robbery
The young woman waited in the wrecked van as law enforcement officers chased her brother and his two friends through the woods north of Westville. When they were gone, she got out, walked a bit and then used her cell phone to call a ride.
KCSO, EPD investigating string of auto break-ins
The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) and Elgin Police Department (EPD) are investigating separate but possibly connected sets of automobile break-ins. The break-ins were perpetrated between late Monday night and early Wednesday morning.

Four county men have been called to appear in summary court on malicious injury to property charges after allegedly tearing up the Kershaw County Recreation Department (KCRD) soccer fields at the West Wateree Sports Complex.
KCSO finds missing boy safe
A 13-year-old special needs student at an Elgin private residential school was found safe after a nearly two-hour search Tuesday evening. The boy, who climbed out of his bedroom window at Pine Grove School on Chestnut Road near Elgin around 5 p.m., left without a coat or shoes in freezing temperatures, according to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) has released more information about break-ins at two North Central schools in the hopes of catching the perpetrators.
North Central schools vandalized
Somebody broke into both North Central High and North Central Middle schools, caused $30,000 total damage and stole computers.

Second arrest in fatal accident
A second arrest was made in the case of a fatal hit-and-run in Elgin on March 1. 26-year-old Jesus Corona Cabal, of Columbia, was charged with accessory after the fact for helping the driver involved in the hit and run "destroy" the 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse that hit and killed Derk Lawrence Maricle of Lugoff, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly said.
