Grant helps LF-R get valuable equipment

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) is purchasing several new pieces of firefighting gear after recently receiving a nearly $5,000 grant from the International Paper Foundation in Eastover. LF-R will obtain large-diameter water manifolds to be placed on all of its fire pumpers. The LF-R applied for the grant in June 2014, according to a press release from Chief Dennis Ray.

Camden drug dealer gets nine year sentence

A Camden man is headed to prison for nine years after pleading guilty Thursday to two counts each of trafficking crack cocaine and distributing crack cocaine within proximity of a school.

Crooks impersonating officers to steal dogs

The Kershaw County Department of Safety and Emergency Services/Code Enforcement is cautioning residents to be wary of a crew of criminals impersonating code enforcement officers in order to steal dogs from their owners. Director Gene Faulkenberry issued a statement recently saying two men and a woman in a white Ford pickup truck had pulled their scam in the Lugoff and Cassatt areas of the county.

Lack of hydrants delays LF-R efforts at house fire

A lack of fire hydrants delayed Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) crews getting more water to battle a two-story house fire on Lander Lane in Lugoff's Hunter Crossing subdivision shortly after midnight Wednesday. LF-R Chief Dennis Ray said it is not uncommon for hydrants in rural subdivisions to be placed more than 1,000 feet apart, making it tough for firefighters to do their jobs.

A Camden woman died as a result of a New Year's Eve car crash, according to new Kershaw County Coroner David West. West identified the deceased as Maureen Knudson, 56, of Camden.

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) Chief Dennis Ray along with Battalion Chief Chris Spitzer want to thank everyone who participated in the recent fundraiser to offset some of the medical costs incurred by Spitzer's son, Carson. An employee of a downtown Camden restaurant called police Tuesday, Dec. 23 after receiving a phone call she suspected was an attempted scam. A Camden Police Department (CPD) report said a man called the business and said he was the general manager for a local electric cooperative and the restaurant had a past due bill of $1,400 that had to be paid immediately or the electric service would be cut off.
