While school went back in session in Kershaw County this week, it was back to work for Elsa, a Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) K-9 and her handler, Sgt. Mike Lyons. Lyons is the supervisor for the KCSO's school resource officers (SROs). Elsa is a 2-year-old German Shepherd donated to the KCSO by Beverly Conley of Blythewood in December 2013.
The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently awarded a $350,000 grant to Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R). The grant will be used to hire a career firefighter to serve as the LF-R's volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention coordinator.

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) bloodhound team located a missing elderly Cassatt man near his home Sunday. According to a KCSO press release, deputies were notified around 11 a.m. of the 84-year-old man's disappearance. They also learned he suffered from health problems.
A Camden man who pled guilty July 8 to shooting into his ex-girlfriend's home a year ago will spend at least the next three years in prison. Harley Joe Moore, 34, pled guilty to charges of discharging a firearm into a dwelling, unlawful carrying of a pistol and second degree burglary in conjunction with a July 14, 2014, incident.
