ALPHA Center, solicitor’s office celebrate arbitration success

A large group of local law enforcement and community leaders gathered June 19 at The ALPHA Center in Camden to celebrate the success of a youth arbitration program (YAP) in Kershaw County. The celebration featured a presentation by ALPHA Center Director of Youth Diversion Programs Brooke Tidwell, the presentation of two awards and a success story from a YAP participant.

Explorers win statewide competitions

Explorers from the Camden Fire Department (CFD) and Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) scored well in state competitions held during the S.C. State Firefighters Association (SCFA) Conference, June 8-13 in Myrtle Beach. The conference is a major training/education event hosted by the Firefighters Association each year, according to CFD Chief John Bowers, who serves as chairman of the SCFA's supervisory committee.

Suspected burglar caught shortly after theft, chase

Camden police arrested an Eastover man early Saturday morning on charges of burglary of a business and failure to stop for police after he fled from a crime scene trying to escape the officer and wrecking the vehicle.

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested two New Jersey men passing through the county on I-20 Monday after finding them in possession of a large amount of heroin and MDMA, commonly known as ecstacy.

Woman charged with embezzling $117,000

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested a Lugoff woman Thursday after she turned herself in following accusations she embezzled nearly $117,000 from her employer.

Camden police arrest suspected armed robber

A suspected armed robber is in the Kershaw County Detention Center after his arrest Sunday, only hours after he allegedly held up a cab driver in east Camden. A Camden Police Department (CPD) report said Tyrone Cook Jr., 18, of Elkwood Lane, Camden, was arrested around 4 p.m. at a fast-food restaurant on East DeKalb Street.

Camden-Lugoff Elks Lodge funds body armor and body cameras for KCSO

The Camden-Lugoff Elks Lodge #2603 donated $2,000 toward the purchase of bulletproof vests or body cameras for the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office on Friday, June 12. Lodge President John Powers, third from the right in the photo, presented the check to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews with other lodge members in attendance.

Crime Report - June 17, 2015

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is investigating the theft of a TV, an air conditioner and a shotgun from an Elgin home June 10. A KCSO report said the victim was away from his Silicate Way home for four hours and when he returned he noticed a gate and a shed door were open. Not realizing the house had been broken into, he closed the gate and shed before going into the house and discovering the thefts. The report said the total value of the missing items is approximately $1,500.

Lugoff man arrested for sexual conduct with teen

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators arrested Donnie Lee Hudson, 32, of Lugoff, on two counts of criminal sexual conduct on a minor under 14 years of age. According to a KCSO press release, investigators first arrested Hudson on May 13.
