Woman arrested for leaving infant in car while she shopped

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested a 46-year-old Lugoff woman Tuesday after she allegedly left a 16-month-old boy and a dog unattended in her vehicle while she shopped for groceries.

Man arrested for armed robbery, home invasions

A young man thought to be responsible for a recent home invasion and kidnapping in Camden, another home invasion in Cassatt and the armed robbery of a convenience store in east Camden is behind bars today.

EMS training

Local emergency management services (EMS) and other first responders took part in special training May 4 at the Kershaw County Government Center learning to deal with patients suffering from difficult airway problems. In these two pictures, personnel showed off what they already knew about dealing with difficult airways using special mannequins -- which reproduce the swelling and constriction of blocked airways as well as lung sounds -- aboard Palmetto Health and the University of South Carolina Medical School's mobile SimLab. Crime Report - May 20, 2016

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested a 25-year-old woman May 12 at a Dicey Creek Road residence after her mother said her daughter was attempting to assault her husband and threatened both of them.

ISO ratings for some fire districts going down

The ISO ratings for several Kershaw County Fire Service districts are being lowered based on a recent survey conducted by the Insurance Services Offices. The ratings are used by insurance companies to help set rates for homeowners and business coverage. The areas covered by the most recent study include the Bethune, Cassatt, Doby's Mill and Pine Grove fire districts.

Church secretary arrested after funds reported missing

Following a more than two-week investigation, the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested a church secretary Wednesday for stealing more than $97,000 in church funds. During an interview with a KCSO investigator, the secretary -- identified in a KCSO press release as Deborah Bradshaw Barfield, 53, of Jesup Court, Elgin -- admitted to taking the money from St. John's United Methodist Church in Lugoff in order buy drugs she purchased on the streets of Columbia.

Crime Report - May 13, 2016

A Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) incident report provides additional details about the case against Alvin Davis IV, 20, of Haile Gold Mine Road in Kershaw County who is charged with the unlawful neglect of his 4-month-old son. Deputies arrested Davis on April 30, the day after his children were placed into emergency protective custody.

LF-R gets 12 more rescue swimmers

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) now has 12 more swift water rescuers after the group completed training at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Two more arrested for speeding 120-plus mph

For the second time in two weeks, the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) Traffic Unit arrested two men for speeding at 120 mph or more on I-20. Deputies made the arrests 20 minutes apart Friday night, at 10:30 and 10:50 p.m.

I-20 east to close Sunday to remove tractor trailer

A section of I-20 eastbound in Kershaw County will be closed for several hours Sunday to allow recovery of a tractor-trailer that crashed into the Wateree River earlier this month. Eastbound lanes will close beginning at 5 a.m. Sunday. Reopening is planned by early afternoon, barring unforeseen circumstances. Westbound traffic is not affected.

Man survives tractor trailer fall into Wateree River

A 60-year-old Batesburg man managed to survive after his tractor-trailer crashed through a concrete barrier on the westbound I-20 bridge over the Wateree River and fell dozens of feet to the water below.

Man kidnaps family, forces ATM withdrawal

The Camden Police Department (CPD) is looking for the young man who abducted a 31-year-old woman and her 18- and 3-year-old sons from a Kendall Street, Camden home at gunpoint on April 27 and forced the woman to withdraw money from an ATM.
