Some Kershaw County parents have expressed concern about whether a convicted sex offender is allowed on public school grounds.
KCSO seeks person of interest in Kmart robbery
Wednesday, the Chronicle-Independent's weekly crime report featured an armed robbery at a "West DeKalb Street" department store where the suspect got away with $1,700. Now, the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) and Crimestoppers are hoping to find and speak with a man who may know something about the robbery at what is now being officially identified as the Camden Kmart.
KCSO seeks man posing as officer
During the past six months, an unidentified man has pulled people over conducting "traffic stops" while claiming to be a deputy or police officer. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says the man -- who stopped several people as recently as this past weekend -- is not a member of law enforcement.

Lancaster road named for SCHP trooper with Kershaw County ties
Seventy-four years after his death, a S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) trooper with Kershaw County ties was recently honored in Lancaster County. Walter T. Bell, a native of the town of Kershaw whose family includes residents of Kershaw County, died in a traffic crash on Feb. 4, 1939.
Ridgeway man killed after single car crash
A Ridgeway man was pronounced dead at the scene after being transported to KershawHealth following a single car collision Saturday night along Springvale Road according to the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP).

The Camden Fire Department (CFD) recently named its professional and volunteer recipients of its Carl S. Hammond Firefighter of the Year awards. Lt. Tyheine Bennett, who joined the CFD in 2001 is the 2012 Professional Firefighter of the Year. Mark Parker, who originally joined the department in 1988, is the 2012 Volunteer Firefighter of the Year.

Two arrested, one sought in car thefts
The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested two men in connection with the thefts of six vehicles and 25 auto break-ins in the Camden, Cassatt and Kershaw areas. A KCSO press release identified the arrested men as Shawn Michael Cave, 19, and Rick Thomas Kennedy Jr., 17. Deputies are still seeking Jonathan David Bradley, 20, in connection with the thefts and break-ins.
