Your loved one is lying on the ground, not breathing. Their heart might have stopped. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) technicians arrive almost as soon you've hung up from 911. They can't find a pulse, so they begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR. Time is of the essence. They decide to place him or her in their ambulance and will continue CPR on the way to the hospital.

Gang member sentenced to 85 months

A Columbia gang member arrested by Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies in January will spend the next 85 months -- more than seven years -- in prison after pleading guilty Wednsday in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

CSX offers reward in August train derailment case

Police investigators with railway owner CSX are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever placed a yellow bulldozer on the railroad tracks in Lugoff on Aug. 5 that caused a CSX train to derail early that morning.

Three arrested for breaking into cars, home

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Ethan Kane Hanselman, 19, whose last known address is on Broad Street in Camden; Marshall Marlin Minich, 17, of Sunnyhill Drive, Camden; and Thomas McNeill Rose, 18, of Sarsfield Ave, Camden and charged them all with five counts of breaking into an auto and one count of burglary (third degree) and one count of possession of a schedule II narcotic, according to a KCSO press release.

KCSO arrests 10 in prostitution sting

On two evenings in July, two weeks apart, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested 10 men ranging in age from 25 to 53 and from as far away as Illinois for soliciting prostitution. According to a KCSO press release, undercover female deputies used various motel rooms throughout the county equipped with audio and video recording equipment to document what was said during the encounters.

Boy burned by car fire

A helicopter crew airlifted a 5-year-old Lugoff boy from KershawHealth to the JMS Burn Center in Augusta after he suffered severe burns Wednesday. Kershaw County Fire Marshall Keith Ray said the boy suffered the burns from a car fire at an Andrews Circle, Lugoff residence around 11 a.m.
