One of several men who escaped from the Kershaw County Detention Center (KCDC) in 2004 -- and who has been jailed several times since -- was recently arrested again after breaking into his common-law wife's apartment in Camden. This time, however, he is being detained at Richland County's Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Man arrested on misconduct charges as Fairfield deputy
The S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrested a former Fairfield County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) deputy who lives in Kershaw County on charges of misconduct in office and breach of trust with fraudulent intent.
'K2' warning in aftermath of chase, shooting
The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is warning the public about a synthetic drug known as "K2" or "Spice." Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said Friday that Nicholas Rivers -- the 20-year-old Camden man who took his own life after murdering a Columbia cabbie and leading law enforcement on a three-county chase -- had mental health and substance abuse issues.

Acting on a tip, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) narcotics agents arrested James Albert Dorris, 35, of Camellia Lane, Lugoff, for manufacturing methamphetamine in the bathroom of his home. The agents also received word that Dorris had booby-trapped the back door with a shotgun.
Former KCSO narcotics head sues Matthews
David Dowey, the former head of the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) narcotics division, is suing Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews for $2 million claiming Matthews has made defamatory statements about him. That brings the total number of defamation suits against Matthews to four seeking a total of $8 million in actual and punitive damages.
New officers named at Lugoff Fire Department
The Lugoff Fire Department has promoted three firefighters -- Michael "Bud" Talley, Michael "Mhikey" Stanfield and Jody Morrow -- to the rank of lieutenant.

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested a 63-year-old Parkersburg, W. Va., man Aug. 23 after a deputy spotted him drifting out of his lane on I-20 near mile marker 98.
KCSO, SLED solve 2008 murder case
Thanks to the combined efforts of a Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigator and S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agent, five men are facing murder charges in a 3-year-old home invasion and murder case. All five of the men are already in prison, two of them for another home invasion and murder this May.

Second arrest in fatal accident
A second arrest was made in the case of a fatal hit-and-run in Elgin on March 1. 26-year-old Jesus Corona Cabal, of Columbia, was charged with accessory after the fact for helping the driver involved in the hit and run "destroy" the 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse that hit and killed Derk Lawrence Maricle of Lugoff, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly said.
