Second home invasion suspect turns self in
The second of two men accused of perpetrating an Aug. 1 home invasion turned himself in Thursday afternoon. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said Marcus Antwan Greene, 24, turned himself in to authorities at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
Fire forces Lugoff family out of home
The Lugoff Fire Department was dispatched to Meadow Drive in Lugoff July 27 initially for a reported brush fire close to a home. The first arriving firefighter reported to incoming units that the fire was actually inside the home with heavy smoke and fire showing from the roof.
One arrested in home invasion
Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested one man as another escaped following a home invasion in east Camden early Monday morning. Sheriff Jim Matthews said deputies responded to a call on Denton Street shortly after midnight Monday.
Cooperation cracks crime spree

Narcotics agents with the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested two men at a Watts Hill Road, Lugoff, location July 25 after receiving an anonymous tip they were cooking methamphetamine in a metal shed.

For some 50 minutes Friday, someone -- apparently sympathetic to ousted Kershaw County Republican Party co-chair Jeff Mattox -- made it very difficult for anyone else to get through to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO).

Robber strikes again
A knife-wielding robber already suspected in a number of Camden-area cases struck again Sunday night, this time at the Holiday Inn on U.S. 521 South near the I-20 interchange. Camden Police Department (CPD) Chief Joe Floyd said it now appears the suspect may be tied to crimes outside Camden as well.
Patriots rep refuses to resign county GOP office
Jeff Mattox, co-chair of the Kershaw County Republican Party, is resisting calls for him to resign. Mattox, who is a representative of the Kershaw County Patriots -- a Tea Party-like group -- confirmed Tuesday that his fellow co-chair, Chris Oviatt, asked him to step down.

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) charged two men and a woman, all of Camden, with drug possession after placing their home under surveillance for several months.
Second arrest in fatal accident
A second arrest was made in the case of a fatal hit-and-run in Elgin on March 1. 26-year-old Jesus Corona Cabal, of Columbia, was charged with accessory after the fact for helping the driver involved in the hit and run "destroy" the 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse that hit and killed Derk Lawrence Maricle of Lugoff, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly said.
