One dies in New Year’s Eve crash

A Camden woman died as a result of a New Year's Eve car crash, according to new Kershaw County Coroner David West. West identified the deceased as Maureen Knudson, 56, of Camden.

LF-R raffles fire helmet

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) Chief Dennis Ray along with Battalion Chief Chris Spitzer want to thank everyone who participated in the recent fundraiser to offset some of the medical costs incurred by Spitzer's son, Carson. LF-R raffled off a genuine leather Cairns brand fire helmet that had been donated by fire equipment vendor Safe Industries.

Crime Report - Dec. 31, 2014

An employee of a downtown Camden restaurant called police Tuesday, Dec. 23 after receiving a phone call she suspected was an attempted scam. A Camden Police Department (CPD) report said a man called the business and said he was the general manager for a local electric cooperative and the restaurant had a past due bill of $1,400 that had to be paid immediately or the electric service would be cut off. Truck thief arrested

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested 33-year-old William Rawlinson Taylor, from Hopkins, Friday after he allegedly stole a pickup truck and enclosed trailer and led deputies on a high-speed chase.

I-20 ramp accident

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) personnel work to extricate two passengers from this car around 1 p.m. Thursday, which apparently rolled over several times after having gone up an embankment on the eastbound I-20 ramp at Camden Exit 98. Dispatchers initially told the LF-R the accident took place on I-20 itself, but Lugoff Rescue 10, Service 10 and Battalion 1 soon found the accident was on the ramp. LF-R crews stabilized the vehicle and successfully extricated both patients with rescue tools. Miller won’t go to trial until February 2016

The man accused of kidnapping a woman in Chesterfield County, sexually assaulting her there, bringing her into Kershaw County, sexually assaulting her again and then killing her with a baseball bat three years ago will not face a jury until Feb. 9, 2016.

Charge dropped against Councilman Sammie Tucker Jr.

The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office (CSSO) and 3rd District Solicitor's Office have dropped a charge against Kershaw County Councilman Sammie Tucker Jr. in connection with his arrest for allegedly unlawfully selling a truck and trailer. Tucker's attorney, Reggie Lloyd, said a charge of "unlawful disposal of personal property subject to security interest" has been dropped.
