BBQ fundraiser nets $1,000 for KC Sheriff’s Foundation

Gadgets of Lugoff recently hosted a BBQ cook-off to raise money for the Kershaw County Sheriff's Foundation. Sixteen teams of BBQ cooking experts, members of the S.C. BBQ Association from all over South Carolina, and one team from North Carolina, all competed for three prizes. The winning team, "Pimp My Pig" received a trophy and cash prize.

Man shot multiple times at nightclub

During the early morning hours Saturday, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies responded to a shots fired call at Club Sauce, 790 U.S. 1 North. When responding deputies arrived at the club where a large crowd had gathered, they found a very chaotic scene. One of the security guards at the club advised that the victim had been transported by private vehicle to the hospital.

Deputy revives overdose victim with Narcan

In June, all Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies were trained in the use of Narcan, an emergency antidote for a person or even an animal that is demonstrating symptoms of an opioid overdose. Each deputy was issued two Narcan dosages.

A Cassatt woman died Sunday, three days after being involved in a vehicle collision on U.S. 1 North in Cassatt.

Another car break-in suspect pleads guilty

Ethan Kane Hanselman, 19, of Broad Street, Camden, pleaded guilty to four counts of breaking into motor vehicles and one count each of unlawful carrying of a pistol and one count of financial transaction card theft. Circuit Court Judge Deandrea G. Benjamin sentenced Hanselman to a total of five years in prison under the S.C. Youthful Offender Act, credited with 95 days time served and suspended with 18 months probation, substance abuse counseling, and random drug and alcohol testing. The sentencing information also indicated Hanselman's case is being transferred to the state of Ohio.

Elgin man no longer faces murder charge

Kenneth Cordell Rainer, 42, of Elgin, no longer has a murder charge against him. According to online court records, the Kershaw County Grand Jury declined to indict Rainer for allegedly shooting a man in May who then succumbed to his wounds. The Kershaw County Clerk of Court's website published the grand jury's decision Wednesday.

Burglary suspect caught by armed homeowner

An armed homeowner caught a burglary suspect and held him at gunpoint until law enforcement could get to the scene, according to a Kershaw County Sheriff's Office press release.

Nominations open for 2017 Deputy of the Year

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Foundation (KCSF) Board of Directors invites the public to submit nominations for the "2017 Kershaw County Sheriff's Office Deputy of the Year Award." The award recognizes a KCSO deputy who exhibits exemplary service to our county and citizens in the current calendar year. The KCSO winner will receive a $1,000 prize funded by anonymous supporters of the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office and the KCSF.
