Camden Fire Department Explorers excel at state competition

Explorer Post 911 is a group of 14 to 18-year olds with an interest in firefighting. Six members of the group went to the annual Explorer competition at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Thursday, June 12. Advisor Abram Johnson of the Camden Fire Department (CFD) said the team made him proud as individuals and as a team.

Thomley sues Matthews for $2 million

David Thomley lost his bid to be Kershaw County Sheriff in Tuesday's Republican primary and two days later filed a $2 million lawsuit against Sheriff Jim Matthews. Thomley is a former captain with the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office and the suit alleges Matthews made disparaging comments about Thomley's investigation of a reported case of "fighting and bullying" involving several students at Camden Military Academy (CMA).

Local CPA guilty of stealing estate funds

A federal jury found Joseph Glenn Folsom Jr., 61, a certified public accountant living on Blue Heron Lane at Lake Wateree, guilty Wednesday on four counts of the interstate transportation of stolen money. According to a press release from the South Carolina U.S. Attorney's office, the guilty verdict came at the end of a three-day trial in Columbia. U.S. District Judge Joseph F. Anderson Jr. presided over the trial and will sentence Folsom at a later date.

Man pleads guilty to sexually abusing girl

A circuit court judge sentenced a Lexington County man to 20 years in prison Tuesday after the man pleaded guilty in Kershaw County to second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor between the ages of 11 and 14.

An alert Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputy nabbed a man wanted for murder in Anderson County on Saturday while on patrol as part of enhanced enforcement during the Memorial Day weekend.

Interstate 20 crash ties up traffic on Sunday

A three-vehicle crash left I-20 blocked for several hours near the Kershaw/Richland County line Sunday. Lugoff Fire-Rescue Chief Dennis Ray said a Ford Mustang and Dodge pickup truck were traveling westbound on I-20 when they collided. The S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the Mustang drove partially off the left side of the road, over-corrected and struck the pickup, causing that driver to lose control, rolling the truck several times. The Mustang then drove underneath an already disabled tractor-trailer truck stopped on the shoulder.
