An armed robber walked into Check Into Cash at the corner of DeKalb and Fair streets just before 10 a.m. Friday.

The Camden Police Department (CPD) arrested a 46-year-old Lugoff man after he allegedly threatened to shoot an off-duty officer. The man allegedly made the threat Friday morning while the deputy, in plain clothes, was at a West DeKalb Street store.

Carl Mendez, 23, of Lugoff, pled guilty Thursday to being an accessory to murder in the so-called 2009 "ninja" murder case. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents and Kershaw County deputies arrested Norman Elliott, 63, at his Lugoff home Sunday after he received a package containing 199 counterfeit checks from Nigeria with a declared value of over $554,000.
Command shift at KCSO with new traffic unit

One day before an Elgin homeowner found 15-year-old Daven Williams dead in their swimming pool, a Camden man was transported -- alive -- to the hospital after nearly drowning in Kendall Lake. Camden Police Department (CPD) Chief Joe Floyd said the 35-year-old man had to be taken to the hospital after he tried to rescue his fiancé's flotation device.

A 15-year-old teen with a developmental disorder was found dead on Friday after he walked away from the school he attended in Elgin for the second time, according to authorities.
CMA hazing trial continues in Columbia
A federal jury is hearing testimony this week as the trial begins of a lawsuit brought against Camden Military Academy (CMA). In the trial's first days, attorneys for a former cadet have brought forward testimony and evidence they say show that, in 2008, other CMA students raped the then 13-year-old boy, according to news reports. The former cadet, listed in the lawsuit only as "JBC," is now 18.
