KCSF calls for Price Award nominations

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Foundation (KCSF) Board of Directors is accepting 2013 nominations for the Leonard Price Friend of Law Enforcement Award. The KCSF established the award in 2012 to recognize the support of Kershaw County residents for the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO). The award is named after the late Mr. Leonard L. Price, a former resident of the North Central area of Kershaw County who invested heavily in supporting law enforcement.

Lugoff firefighters welcome kids ‘Back To School’

As most Kershaw County schools opened their doors to students Monday, the Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) was there for the fourth year in a row with a fire truck at Wateree Elementary School (WES) early in the morning as students returned to class. LFD headquarters sent out its 77-foot ladder truck to WES as parents and buses brought students back to school on the nervous "first day."

Grant to serve 30 years in Swainson killing

Freddie Grant, 53, of Elgin will spend 30 years in prison for the kidnapping and murder of Richland County teenager Gabriella "Gabbiee" Swainson after negotiating a deal with authorities. Grant pleaded guilty to the charges in front of 5th Circuit Court Judge Robert Hood at the Richland County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon. Grant will be 83 years old when he completes his sentence.

Camden woman filed false tax returns

A Camden woman pled guilty Wednesday in federal court to filing false tax returns using other people's identifying information without their authority.

Crime Report - Aug. 14, 2013

A man posing as a Charleston police officer called a Camden home and said that the residents owed more than $300 in speeding tickets. The man said they had been caught on tape speeding and instructed the resident to purchase a GreenDot card and call him back with a card's number.

Carolina Brotherhood rides into Camden

Twenty-seven firefighters from North and South Carolina rode up on bicycles to the Camden Fire Department (CFD) at Camden City Hall a little after 11 a.m. Monday. Family, friends and other supporters rode ahead or behind in trucks. Monday marked the Carolina Brotherhood's third day of riding, having started in Rocky Mount, N.C. They had just come from Darlington where they got the chance to run a circuit around the Darlington Raceway.

Kershaw County Sheriff’s Foundation buys SCLEOA memberships for deputies

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Foundation recently purchased S.C. Law Enforcement Officers Association (SCLEOA) memberships for every sworn officer at the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO). While each membership costs only $30, the benefits are substantial, according to a KCSO press release. Members receive a $5,000 line-of-duty death benefit, free legal representation for officers facing litigation stemming from line-of-duty incidents, scholarship opportunities for children of officers and discounts at motels and attractions.

The city of Camden Fire Department (CFD) is teaming up with Safe Kids Kershaw County to provide free child safety seat inspections and installations during the annual Belk Back to School Kid Fest. Man accused of having sex with girl

Sunday, a 29-year-old Camden man turned himself in at the Kershaw County Detention Center after learning the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) had a warrant for his arrest charging him with allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
