Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah VFD gets $27,000 grant for gear

The Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah Fire Department recently received a $27,096 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The department will use the funds to purchase new turnout gear for the firefighters.

Confederate battle flag hung from downtown building

Someone -- no one knows who yet -- hung a Confederate battle flag from a downtown Camden office building sometime before dawn Thursday morning. Whoever was responsible cut the letters H A T E out of the middle of the flag, which caught the attention of people driving down Broad Street near the main intersection with DeKalb Street.

Overturned truck blocks part of U.S. 601 Tuesday morning

An 18-wheeler carrying nearly depleted natural gas canisters overturned on U.S. 601 near Brevard Road approximately 5 miles south of I-20 around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. The accident shut down the highway for several hours, forcing commuters to find alternate routes as the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP), Kershaw County emergency management teams, Doby's Mill and Lugoff fire crews dealt with the situation.

LF-R battles woods fire with help from other departments

Crews from Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) and other Kershaw County fire departments battled a 30-acre woods fire Saturday caused by a passing freight train behind the Pepperidge Subdivision in Lugoff off U.S. 1.

KCSO deputies now equipped with body cams

All Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) uniformed deputies who work in an enforcement capacity are now wearing Taser Axon body cameras. The last group of uniformed patrol officers attended their final training session July 2 and equipped with the new cameras, according to a statement released by Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.

LF-R publishes results of wildfire protection survey

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) recently teamed up with the S.C. Forestry Commission (SCFC) on a 10-month district-wide survey of the wildfire potential among homes, businesses and industries protected by the department. Lugoff Fire Marshal Will Catoe escorted SCFC assessors to collect data for the complete assessment, which included photos and threat areas.

Lugoff Fire-Rescue responds to apartment fire

Lugoff Fire-Rescue crews responded to the Sherwood Apartments in Lugoff on the evening of June 30 around 10:30 p.m. for a fire reported inside an unoccupied apartment by other people living at the complex. According to a LF-R statement released Thursday, Lugoff Ladder 10 and Rescue Engine 10 arrived to find smoke coming from a second floor apartment. Firefighters forced open the door and found a fire from food left unattended on the stove. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, limiting damage to the stove area.
