KCSO drug sweep

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office narcotics agents, acting on tips from citizens, rounded up 14 drug dealers Monday as part of a several months-long investigation. Sheriff Jim Matthews said the investigation included making controlled undercover buys from known, "problem" drug dealers and executing search warrants at locations throughout the county.

Burglary suspect arrest after high speed chase

KCSO thwarts bank robbery, arrests three

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested two men May 8 who had planned to rob a Camden bank. Sheriff Jim Matthews said deputies arrested Danny Burch Jr., 33, and William C. Means, 34, both of Camden, after deputies received information they planned to rob the unidentified bank. Deputies later arrested Russell Roberts, 31, of Kershaw, on other charges.

KCSO seizes nearly 20 pounds of cocaine

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) narcotics investigators seized 9 kilograms -- or nearly 20 pounds -- of high grade cocaine April 29. The KCSO worked with S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) on the seizure during which three people were arrested. Sheriff Jim Matthews declined to name those arrested or exactly where the operation took place because of an ongoing DEA investigation into the matter.

Heavy rains, lightning cause flooding, fires

At least 3 inches of rain fell in Kershaw County on Tuesday as about an hour-long storm brought heavy rains and frequent lightning strikes. Camden Public Works Director Tom Couch said a rain gauge at the city's parking lot measured 3.2 inches of rain Tuesday.

Prestage D.C. court appearance postponed

A Camden businessman accused of taking a loaded gun into a congressional office building in Washington, D.C., was scheduled to appear in court Thursday, but the District of Columbia U.S. Attorney's Office said the hearing has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. Sept. 10 before Magistrate Judge Frederick Sullivan.
