LFD discovers alligator after fighting fire

Members of the Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) made a startling discovery while checking possible damage from an apartment fire June 18: a young American alligator. According to LFD Chief Dennis Ray, firefighters weren't even in the damaged unit at Lugoff's Lynwood apartment complex off Frenwood Lane when they found the alligator.

Wife in child sex abuse case posts bond

A Kershaw County woman accused of looking the other way as her husband sexually abused their two daughters for more than six years posted bond Wednesday. A magistrate set a cash surety bond at $30,000 for Kelly Browning, charged earlier this week by the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office with two counts of unlawful neglect upon a child.

Parents arrested in child sex abuse case

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators arrested a Lugoff couple after learning that a man sexually abused his two daughters. According to a statement released to the press Monday afternoon, investigators arrested Michael Dwight Browning, 36, and his 33-year-old wife, Kelly Marie Browning. The KCSO said Michael Browning allegedly abused his daughters sexually, one when she was between the ages of 8 and 14, the other when she was between 7 and 9 years of age. Mahoney pleads guilty, sentenced in molestation case

‘Tie One On’ for MADD

With the 2014 holiday season upon us, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), along with law enforcement and other emergency services are encouraging everyone use a red ribbon to "Tie One On" for safety. Local MADD representatives, emergency personnel and family members of victims of drunk driving gathered Tuesday at Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) for an event to kick off the 28th year of the campaign. Participants urged everyone to act responsibly if they choose to consume alcohol.
