A Lugoff man was arrested Wednesday, April 9 after Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies found equipment and supplies used to manufacture methamphetamine at his home. A KCSO report said Michael Dean Thompson, 25, 1759 Baughman Road was taken into custody after deputies paid a visit to the home after receiving information that Thompson had been making excessive purchases of pseudoephedrine, an over-the-counter cold remedy used to make methamphetamine. The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is continuing its investigation of Saturday's early morning armed robbery at the Markette in Lugoff. New information from the KCSO's incident report of the robbery now indicates that the robber forced the female employee opening the store to open a safe.

Four Kershaw County fire departments battled a blaze at a Cassatt lumber company Tuesday night. Kershaw County Fire Marshall Gene Faulkenberry said the call came in around 8:30 p.m. on the fire at Canfor Southern Pine -- commonly known by its former name as New South -- on Sanders Creek Road.

One commercial motor coach bus crashed into another on I-20 Saturday morning as both buses swerved to avoid a couch that had, somehow, ended up on the highway. S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said the crash took place around 9 a.m. and kept the eastbound side of the highway shut down for approximately two and a half hours. The two buses were carrying a total of around 100 people to the Cup, Jones said.
Fire departments and technology centers from all over South Carolina sent firefighting Explorers and Junior Firefighters to compete in a competition at the S.C. Fire Academy in Columbia on March 8. The academy asked crews from Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) to coordinate the event after a successful similar event at the S.C. Firefighter's Association Conference in June 2013. The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is seeking a man in connection with the shooting death of a Camden man Saturday. In a press release, Sheriff Jim Matthews identified the man investigators want to talk to as 22-year-old Robert Wendell Simon.
