A suspected armed robber is in the Kershaw County Detention Center after his arrest Sunday, only hours after he allegedly held up a cab driver in east Camden. A Camden Police Department (CPD) report said Tyrone Cook Jr., 18, of Elkwood Lane, Camden, was arrested around 4 p.m. at a fast-food restaurant on East DeKalb Street.

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is investigating the theft of a TV, an air conditioner and a shotgun from an Elgin home June 10. A KCSO report said the victim was away from his Silicate Way home for four hours and when he returned he noticed a gate and a shed door were open. Not realizing the house had been broken into, he closed the gate and shed before going into the house and discovering the thefts. The report said the total value of the missing items is approximately $1,500.

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators arrested Donnie Lee Hudson, 32, of Lugoff, on two counts of criminal sexual conduct on a minor under 14 years of age. According to a KCSO press release, investigators first arrested Hudson on May 13.

Panelists in Camden High School's auditorium included Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews, Camden Police Department (CPD) Chief Joe Floyd and S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) Deputy Commander Lt. Col. Chris Williamson. Elgin Police Chief Harold Brown and Bethune Police Chief Joey Cobb also attended. Rev. Dr. Augustus Rodgers, pastor of Unity United Methodist Church in Lugoff served as the master of ceremonies.

Sporadic reports of a black bear spotted in Camden this week remain unconfirmed as the Camden Police Department (CPD) said responding officers have not seen the animal. CPD Capt. Mike Stone said Wednesday the department had received calls, but officers were unable to verify the presence of a bear within the city limits.
