Bodies of missing NC teens found under I-20 bridge

The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) and other law enforcement and emergency agencies recovered the bodies of two missing Catawba County, N.C., teenage boys from underneath a bridge near the Wateree River on I-20 near the Sunday afternoon.

Fifth Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson is seeking the death penalty against Nickolas Jermaine Miller, 23, for the Dec. 26, 2011, rape and murder of a woman from the town of Kershaw.

KCSO charges two men with molestation

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators arrested Cleve Edward Burchett, 52, of Kershaw, S.C., and Ricky Van Ross, Jr., 18, of Elgin, in Richland County in two separate unrelated cases of criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Burchett was arrested on Oct.16, 2012 and charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. On Oct. 18, 2012, Ross turned himself in to Kershaw County Sheriff's Office investigators after his attorney was notified that a warrant charging Ross with second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor had been obtained by the Sheriff's Office.

After ban, synthetic marijuana sales continue

Nearly one year ago the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) Board took action on 'bath salts' and synthetic marijuana, also known as "spice" or K2. They designated three substances that are commonly known as "bath salts," and five substances used to make synthetic marijuana as Schedule I controlled substances.

Elgin woman alleges pen pal won’t pay up

An Elgin woman's internet "pen pal" has failed to repay $660. The Elgin woman told Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies that her long-term Kentucky pen pal told her that she was behind in bills, that she had a large sum of medical bills, and "how bad her life was." The Elgin woman sent her pen pal the money through mail, and requested a note listing when the woman would pay her back. The letter sent said the Kentucky woman would send her the money on June 14th, but has failed to repay the money.

A three-car collision Saturday afternoon resulted in two fatalities along U.S. 1 according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said the crash occurred about 3:05 p.m.

In recent weeks, at least one Kershaw County resident reported receiving several telephone calls from someone claiming they were from the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO). The caller advised the resident that the KCSO had warrants for her arrest for bad checks and that she needed to send money to clear up the situation.

S.C. Supreme Court suspends Cushman

The S.C. Supreme Court placed Camden City Attorney Charles Cushman on interim suspension Friday, suspending his license to practice law in the state of South Carolina until further notice. Camden City Council voted to place Cushman, who also acted as the city's municipal court prosecutor, on unpaid administrative leave Sept. 20, one day after he turned himself in to the Kershaw County Detention Center on misconduct in office charges. Armed robber steals money from Elgin store

An man armed with a semi-automatic weapon entered the Dollar General in Elgin just before 8 p.m. Sept. 27, demanding money. The Elgin Police Department (EPD) and Crimestoppers are now asking for the public's help in identifying the man.
