Woman arrested in alleged knife attack

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested an Elgin woman Tuesday after she allegedly stabbed another woman and cut a man in Lugoff. Sheriff Jim Matthews said deputies arrested Brandie Renee Hughes, 29, of Sessions Road, after she reportedly attacked the man and woman at a Lugoff motel on U.S. 1 at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Crime Report - March 12, 2014

Camden Police Department (CPD) officers are investigating a fraud/confidence game/breach of trust case that reportedly scammed a Camden woman out of more than $29,000. A CPD report said the victim told police she received a phone message from a man claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service who said she risked being arrested if she did not contact him immediately.

SCLEN, American Legion honor KCSO deputies

The S.C. Law Enforcement Network (SCLEN) recently honored Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) Deputy Kyle Hewitt as its Officer of the Year in the 5th Judicial Circuit. SCLEN is an organization of law enforcement agencies that work in individual South Carolina judicial districts with the mission to reduce DUI fatalities and collisions resulting in great bodily injury. Man accused in Rabon killing waives bond

Stephen Ross Kelly, 21, charged with kidnapping, sexually assaulting and strangling 18-year-old Briana Nicole Rabon to death will apparently remain in jail until his trial. Monday, Kelly waived his right to a bond hearing. Also, attorney Bob Mobley Cook of Kershaw, confirmed he is representing Kelly in the case.

KCSO arrests Lugoff man in Rabon murder

A Lugoff man is in custody for allegedly sexually assaulting and then strangling 18-year-old Briana Rabon to death nearly a week ago. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews announced Friday night that investigators had arrested Stephen Ross Kelly, 21, of Leslie Branham Road, Lugoff. Kelly is charged with murder, kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual conduct. During a press conference Saturday morning at the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO), Matthews said Kelly is investigators' only suspect.

KCSO investigating strangulation death of L-EHS graduate

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) and S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are investigating the strangulation death of an 18-year-old Lugoff woman. Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers said Briana Nicole Rabon, of Ridgeway Road, died of asphyxiation by strangulation. Fellers said he has not been able to determine a time of death.

Coroner: Briana Rabon died from being strangled

Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers informed the C-I a short time ago that Briana Rabon, the 18-year-old woman whose body was discovered behind the Haigs Creek subdivision Wednesday, died of asphyxiation from being stranged. He said an autopsy was conducted earlier today.
