An elderly Camden woman scammed out of $18,000 recently is not the first victim of a new phone scam in the area. Camden Police Department (CPD) Chief Joe Floyd said scams and/or attempted phone scams happen at least once a week and are underreported.

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested a 15-year-old juvenile hours after reporting that a male subject impersonating a deputy had handcuffed a Camden woman and tried to make her remove her clothes.

Target Distribution Center Assets Protection Leader Jennifer Young (left) presents a $2,000 check to Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO). Hundreds of people -- perhaps several thousand -- attended Camden's 18th annual Fire Fest at Rhame Arena Saturday. Many of those people lined a long stretch of Broad Street to watch as hundreds of fire trucks and related vehicles -- some vintage and some from as far away as Pennsylvania -- paraded through the city to the arena. Those same people cheered as a pair of skydivers, one trailing South Carolina's Palmetto flag, the other the American flag, landed in a field behind the arena.

Pine Grove Fire Department (PGFD) and Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) Firefighting Explorer program will host a "Celebration of Life River Ride and Festival" in memory DeWitt Peake on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the PGDF, 833 Pine Grove Road in Lugoff.
In conjunction with this weekend's Fire Fest at Rhame Arena, the Camden Fire Department has released its 2013 Fire Prevention Checklist. Fire Fest, including the annual parade and many new features, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Organizers plan to honor the 90th anniversary of the Cleveland School Fire, which killed many people, but led to new building codes in South Carolina.
