The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) and Department of Social Services are looking into a case where a 31-year-old woman with mental issues claimed to have been forced to commit sex acts against her will while staying with someone who was supposed to be taking care of her. One of the alleged victim's friends brought the matter to the KCSO's attention.

County man pleads guilty to breeding, abusing dogs for fights

A Kershaw County man pled guilty June 27 to 12 counts of ill treatment of animals and eight counts of breeding dogs for illegal purposes, all felony charges. Burton Lushawn Mincey, arrested by the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) Jan. 8, immediately received a sentence of five years, suspended upon one year of active prison time and two years supervised release from Judge Robert Hood at the Kershaw County Courthouse.

SCHP July 4 enforcement begins today

S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) troopers, in conjunction with the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO), Camden Police Department (CPD) and Kershaw County's Community Action for a Safer Tomorrow (CAST), will begin its July 4th weekend enforcement program Wednesday at 6 a.m. Enhanced patrols, checkpoints and other efforts will continue until 12 a.m. Saturday night.

Near drowning averted at Kendall Lake

One day before an Elgin homeowner found 15-year-old Daven Williams dead in their swimming pool, a Camden man was transported -- alive -- to the hospital after nearly drowning in Kendall Lake. Camden Police Department (CPD) Chief Joe Floyd said the 35-year-old man had to be taken to the hospital after he tried to rescue his fiancé's flotation device.
