Drug dealer pleads guilty

Warren Edward Washington, 29, of Cassatt, skipped out on his Oct. 17 trial date for crack cocaine distribution and marijuana possession charges. Less than 24 hours later, an anonymous tip led Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies to a home on Clearwater Lake Road near Westville where they found Washington and arrested him.

Man bonds out on DUI, child endangerment charges

A Darlington man is out of jail on $2,712 bond – which included $445 for a child endangerment charge -- after being arrested Saturday when he was found passed out in his car on Interstate 20 with his 5-year-old daughter in the car.

Man denied bond in 2008 fatal home invasion

A Circuit Court judge denied bond Wednesday afternoon for a Camden man tied to two fatal home invasions in three years. In August, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies determined that Randy Lewis, 27 of Bobwhite Circle, Camden -- already being held for his role in the May 16 invasion of a Camden home that left 39-year-old Michael Hayes dead -- was also part of a fatal Nov. 14, 2008, home invasion near the town of Kershaw.

‘Victim’ in kidnapping ‘very, very sorry’ about false report

The Camden Police Department (CPD) formally charged Tionese Denise Alexander, 39, Wednesday after arresting her Tuesday for filing a false police report of a felony. Alexander originally claimed she was kidnapped Oct. 15 at gunpoint from the May Plant Credit Union's (MPCU) ATM by a man with a gun and forced to start drive to North Carolina.

KCSO arrests former deputy on sex charges

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested a former deputy early Wednesday morning, charging him with first degree criminal sexual conduct with a child under 11 years of age. Sheriff Jim Matthews confirmed that Nakia Karrien Johnson, 36, who currently serves with the Fairfax Police Department in Allendale County, worked as a KCSO deputy from November 1999 to April 2001.

Woman assaulted here after Columbia carjacking

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) assisted in the capture of a Columbia man in Marion County and will charge him with kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said he was unsure of exactly what charges 24-year-old Franklin Graham of Columbia may face from other jurisdictions.

I-20 ramp accident

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) personnel work to extricate two passengers from this car around 1 p.m. Thursday, which apparently rolled over several times after having gone up an embankment on the eastbound I-20 ramp at Camden Exit 98. Dispatchers initially told the LF-R the accident took place on I-20 itself, but Lugoff Rescue 10, Service 10 and Battalion 1 soon found the accident was on the ramp. LF-R crews stabilized the vehicle and successfully extricated both patients with rescue tools. Miller won’t go to trial until February 2016
