Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators and Oceanside (Calif.) Police Department (OPD) investigators arrested a Camden woman who apparently moved to Camden on the run from the law in California.

Prestage Farms owner arrested in Washington, D.C.

Ron Prestage, president of Prestage Farms and a Kershaw County resident, spent most of Wednesday and part of Thursday in a Washington, D.C., jail cell. According to U.S. Capitol Police (USCP), Prestage, 59, was arrested around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday after officers discovered he was carrying a loaded handgun and a magazine with ammunition in a briefcase while trying to enter the Cannon House Office Building.

Man allegedly shoots at, breaks into ex-girlfriend’s home

Responding to a frantic 911 call for help and a follow up investigation, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Harley Joe Moore, 33, of Camden, and charged him with first degree burglary, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Attempted murder suspect dies in jail

An Elgin man arrested a week ago and charged with attempted murder and kidnapping after an alleged assault on his wife is dead. Kershaw County Detention Center employees found Joey Matthew Tyner dead in a cell on Sunday.

KCSO arrests four CMA students for burglary

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested four summer school students at Camden Military Academy (CMA) early Thursday after allegedly breaking into a nearby convenience store. A KCSO press release said deputies responded to an alarm activation at the store on U.S. 1 and found glass had been broken from a front door and that the store had apparently been entered.

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested Joey Matthew Tyner, 38, of Rocky Branch Lane, Elgin, on Wednesday after he allegedly cut, stabbed and beat his wife "viciously," according to a KCSO press release.

Baseball bat attacker pleads guilty, receives 11 years

A 21-year-old Lugoff man who admits he attacked a Camden man with a baseball bat last July will spend 11 years behind bars after pleading guilty to a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Ryan Freeland Trojan was originally charged with attempted murder in the attack, but accepted a deal to plead guilty to the lesser charge.

Camden dentist drowns in Lake Wateree

William J. Biggins, 61, a Camden dentist for more than 30 years, drowned Wednesday afternoon in Lake Wateree. According to S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) spokesperson Capt. Robert McCullough, Biggins drowned while swimming in the lake sometime between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Natural gas leak shuts part of Elgin

A natural gas line rupture caused authorities to evacuate a 400-foot area and shut down U.S 1 in both directions for several blocks in downtown Elgin on Tuesday.According to both Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) Chief Dennis Ray and Elgin Police Department (EPD) Harold Dennis Brown, it appears a flat-bed truck ran over the gas line.
