As they flew over Kershaw County July 7, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies and S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agents located three marijuana grows. Deputies and agents arrested four people at the grows and arrested a fifth later.

Assault, home invasion leads to eight arrests by KCSO

A fight that occurred July 6 in Bethune resulted in the aggravated assault of Jeremy Caldwell, who was cut with a razor blade from his ankle to his groin. Caldwell made it back to his home where he called 911. Several of Caldwell's friends became enraged at the assault and drove to the home of Brandon Wilson and Cederic Everett on Rochelle Rd. in Bethune.

The Camden Police Department (CPD) arrested a 46-year-old Lugoff man after he allegedly threatened to shoot an off-duty officer. The man allegedly made the threat Friday morning while the deputy, in plain clothes, was at a West DeKalb Street store.

Co-defendant pleads to accessory in 'ninja' murder

Carl Mendez, 23, of Lugoff, pled guilty Thursday to being an accessory to murder in the so-called 2009 "ninja" murder case. Mendez, who was originally charged with murder, cooperated with prosecutors and testified during a November 2010 trial that saw one of his co-defendants sent to jail for 45 years for shooting Derick Lee twice in the head. A jury acquitted a third defendant of murdering Lee, described by deputies as a "ninja master."

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested a 40-year-old Kershaw man after he allegedly struck a 36-year-old neighbor in the head with an axe handle around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. The assault was reportedly in retaliation for the victim having assaulted a woman.

Counterfeit checks seized by ICE, KCSO

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents and Kershaw County deputies arrested Norman Elliott, 63, at his Lugoff home Sunday after he received a package containing 199 counterfeit checks from Nigeria with a declared value of over $554,000.

Four businesses cited for underage alcohol sales

Four Kershaw County retailers received citations for selling alcohol to underage buyers Tuesday evening. According to a press release, the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) conducted undercover operations in which underage individuals supervised by the KCSO attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages from 46 locations where alcohol can be lawfully sold.

Georgia fugitive caught after high-speed chase

Officers from three law enforcement agencies arrested a Georgia man wanted for attempted murder after he led Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies on a high speed chase on I-20 and then crashed head-on into a Bishopville Police Department (BPD) car. The collision sent both the suspect, Andreas Dominic Washington, 34, and the BPD officer driving the patrol car to the hospital. Officers found Washington in possession of a half-ounce of crack cocaine when they apprehended him.
