School board to begin ‘detailed review’ of budget

The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees will begin a "detailed review" of the Kershaw County School District's (KCSD) preliminary 2017-18 budget tonight. Two weeks ago, KCSD Superintendent Dr. Frank Morgan presented the proposed $81 million budget to the board as information. Now, the board will begin going through that proposal in an effort to determine what, if any changes, it might want to make.

CHS recently announced its honor rolls for the third quarter of the school year. Platinum honor roll students must earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA); Gold honor roll students, a minimum of a 3.5 GPA; and Black honor rolls students, a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

Got sports

Dr. Charles King, Principal of Midway Elementary School, recently procured a grant to provide his students with new playground supplies. Each grade level (and the school's PE program) received new basketballs, soccer balls, kickballs, hula hoops and jump ropes. KC students excel at Education Day event

Allanah Boykin, a 4th grader from Jackson Elementary School won the Overall Organization Spelling Bee for her age group on Saturday, March 18th, during The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands Second Annual Education Day at Midlands Technical College - Airport Campus. Allanah was one of more than two hundred Boys & Girls Clubs members from Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Fairfield, and Kershaw counties that competed in events such as Math, Spelling, U.S. and S.C. District may name softball field after Marcus Warren

Tonight, the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees will consider naming the Camden High School (CHS) softball field in honor of the late Marcus D. Warren. The softball field is located adjacent to Legion Field, which the district acquired as part of a property swap with the city of Camden in exchange for the former CHS tennis courts. The courts will become part of the city's new tennis complex.

A book parade

A parade of students, teachers and parents (first picture) turn into Stephanie's Preschool Blessings and Afterschool Care Center on Mill Street on the morning of March 23.
