Superintendent search, strategic plans on school board agenda

The results of a superintendent search survey and a review of district and school strategic plans are on the agenda for tonight's Kershaw County Board of School Trustees meeting. The board normally meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Earlier this year, the board voted on a meeting calendar that included moving April's meetings to the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, primarily to deal with budgetary matters.

Two Applied Technology Education Campus (ATEC) students have begun work as registered youth apprentices with Thompson Turner, the construction management company building the new Camden Elementary School. The apprenticeships are the first for the Kershaw County School District in almost 20 years.

School board adopts superintendent leadership profile

The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees voted recently to adopt a profile calling for its new superintendent to be "an instructional leader with a record of success" and an "innovative servant leader who has a student-centered focus" based on feedback from more than 200 employees, students and community members.

School board meets tonight

In order to deal with certain budgetary issues for the next school year, the Kershaw County Board of Trustees moved its regular meeting from last Tuesday to tonight. It will combine its regular meeting with a meeting of its finance-facilities committee, which normally meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Regular board meetings are usually held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.

CHS, other schools participate in walkouts

Most of Camden High School's (CHS) student body walked out of their second block classrooms at 10 a.m. Wednesday. In a mostly orderly fashion, monitored by Principal Dan Matthews, Assistant Principal Lesley Corner and other administrators, they walked to the CHS gym and filled the bleachers on one side.
