KCSD female sports participation up 7 percent

Although no new sports have been added for female student athletes, female participation in Kershaw County School District (KCSD) sports during the 2012-13 school year increased 7 percent from the 2010-11 school year. During the 2010-2011 school year only 542 female students participated in middle and high school sports.

KCSD dropout rate beats state average

The Kershaw County School District's (KCSD) dropout rate decreased a percentage point from 2.9 percent in 2010-11 to 1.9 percent in 2011-12. According to data recently released by the S.C. Department of Education, the lower rate is also lower than the state average, which dropped to 2.5 percent in 2011-12 from 2.8 the previous year.

KCSD tops in academic performance

The Kershaw County School District's (KCSD) grade on the 2013 state report card was a high B -- only 1.3 percentage points below an A -- while local third through eighth graders' PASS scores were higher than state averages in 37 of 40 categories. More than 83 percent of KCSD students passed the state's high school exit exam (HSAP) on their first attempt.

‘School Tools’ now open for business

For more than 10 years, Kershaw County residents have helped provide school supplies for more than 2,000 local needy students through the district's "School Tools" program. In order to make it more convenient for persons to participate this year, a special account has been set up at First Citizens Bank where donations can be dropped off or sent through the mail.
