Online only: School board meets Tuesday

The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees will begin discussing the feedback it received from a series of public feedback meetings on facilities tonight. The board will meet in the Kershaw County School District (KCSD) board room at the district's office on West DeKalb Street in Camden. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is open to the public.

L-EHS football team L.E.A.P.S. to WES

Some Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) football players helped Wateree Elementary School (WES) students start the day recently with a smile by opening car doors and reading to them. The players, part of L.E.A.P.S. (Lugoff-Elgin Athletes Providing Service) are (first picture, from left) Elliot Campbell, Hunter Campbell, Blake Crane, Walker Gainey, Tripp Cox, Cole Armstrong, Wyatt Campbell, Adam Rowson, Lorenzo Portee, Ian Campbell, Carlos Gordon, Malek Lyles, Rahmel Burton, Gunnar Catoe and Evan McDonald. Monday to be make-up day for students

Kershaw County School District (KCSD) students will be in close Monday, originally set aside as a professional development day for teachers, because of area flooding which closed schools for a week. The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees approved the make-up day during a meeting Tuesday night, moved from its original Oct. 6 date. Three other make-up days have already been scheduled for Jan. 12, Feb. 15 and March 25 in 2016.

CCTC expansion ground breaking set for January

Central Carolina Technical College (CCTC) will break ground in January for the first expansion of its Kershaw County campus near the I-20/U.S. 521 interchange in Camden. The facility first opened in 2010.

Due to conditions created by heavy rains and flooding a week ago, the Kershaw County School District cancelled both the Kershaw County Board of Trustees' Oct. 6 meeting and the last pair of public feedback on facilities meetings on Oct. 5.

Wateree Elementary School recently honored grandparents with a Grandparent/Family Night that included classroom visits, a book fair and a spaghetti supper. Animal pharmaceutical company supports FFA

Two Kershaw County chapters of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) are benefiting from the generosity of animal pharmaceutical company Zoetis, which is the animal medications division of Pfizer. The FFA programs at the Applied Technology Education Campus (ATEC) and North Central High School were chosen as this year's recipients. The choices were made by the South Carolina Equine Associates (SCEA) in Camden.
