The event will begin at 6 p.m. and tickets may be purchased in advance for $5 and at the gate for $7. Concessions will be sold. Students enrolled in the Applied Technology Education Campus (ATEC) health science program won numerous honors in statewide health occupations competition for high schools held recently in North Charleston. ATEC did very well in the career health display category with four teams placing in the top six out of 63 teams. The competition is sponsored by the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), a national leadership organization for students enrolled in health science and nursing programs. Camden High School has been recognized by the S.C. Department of Education with a Palmetto Silver award for closing the achievement gap in 2010.
The Leroy Belk American Legion Post 17 is seeking applications for Palmetto Boys State, to be held June 12-18 at Anderson University. Applicants should be motivated students interested in learning about citizenship and government, rising seniors of good character and in the top 25 percent of their class.
Applications will be accepted through April 30 for the Camden-Lugoff Elks Lodge No. 2603 annual Mary Ellen Ahner Scholarship. Any Kershaw County High School senior planning to pursue a career in education is eligible to apply.
If the Kershaw County School District (KCSD) receives a millage increase, KCSD teachers may see a reduction in the number of furlough days next year.
Matthew Tyler Kirkland, of Lugoff, was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Francis Marion University, where he is studying computer science.

The Kershaw County School District (KCSD) and Upchurch & Jowers Insurance Agency recognized 32 students for their academic achievements Monday. The 19th annual Upchurch & Jowers All-County Academic Team Banquet took place at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Camden.
Third, fourth and fifth graders from Jackson, Pine Tree Hill (PTH) and Camden Elementary Schools participated in anti-bullying training last week. The group Community Matters from California sent training representatives to PTH, Wateree and Lugoff Elementary Schools and Camden and Lugoff Middle Schools to share the evidence-based program with designated "safe school ambassadors."
