Parents want information on school cheerleading account

Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) parent Mike Gogan filed an incident report against L-EHS last week, in an effort to recover what he believes is missing money from the school's cheerleading account. According to the incident report, Gogan estimated there is about $6,000 to $9,000 missing.

Justin Johnson of Camden, a recent graduate of the Divison for the Deaf at the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB), entertains the crowd in the school's production of "Swing…the Musical." Accompanying him is classmate Jane Enabore. Johnson plans to attend college or travel overseas. While at SCSDB, Johnson participated in basketball, football and track. He won Most Valuable Player in basketball and was a student assistant coach. He excelled in academics while showing off his talents dancing in the school's fine arts performances.

Three Kershaw County seniors recieve Leadership Scholarship

Meredith Toole, April Barrett, and Ashleigh Hough have been awarded the 2011 Laurie Slade Funderburk Leadership Scholarship. For a fourth year, the South Carolina General Assembly Women's Caucus has given scholarships in honor of each of the sixteen women legislators currently serving in the South Carolina General Assembly. Representative Funderburk is currently serving as the Chair of the Women's Caucus.

KCSD reading coaches begin ‘Read to Succeed’ program

Several volunteers in the community are starting to help Kershaw County School District (KCSD) teachers improve reading skills in their students. They are reading coaches, the first part of a South Carolina initiative being implemented under the "Read to Succeed Act" passed by the General Assembly and signed by Gov. Nikki Haley in June.

School AD, head football coaches to stay combined

The positions of athletic director (AD) and head football coach at Kershaw County School District (KCSD) will remain combined. Lugoff-Elgin High School's (L-EHS) currently separate AD and head football coach will be combined back into a single position at the beginning of the 2015-16 school year.
